I pre-ordered SWG disks before release, and was probably the 5th Master Pistoleer on my server. This is how I remember things.

Defenses are broke.

Mostspecials are broke.

Disarm2 was a uber AOE knockdown thatwas intended to belong to carbines,it didn't do what it was supposed to,damage/destroy weapons.

Pistoleer was fairly good in PvP, but BH pistols were better.

Disarm2 gets broken, no longer does anything but random damage.

The first pistoleer correspondent quits.

Several otherprofessions get fixes, pistoleer gets left behind.

We get a new correspondent, who later disappears.

We get a new correspondent.

Defenses get fixed, making pistoleer slightly better.

Thunderheart is hired, it's announced Thunderheart will be working to communicate problems between the player communities to the developers. (To date, I don't think he's done anything but helped get the dodge animation fixed, which took several tries before that worked out.)

Disarm2 gets nerfed, again. Still doesn't do what it's supposed to.

This brings us to the present. A year later nothing substantial has been repaired.

Pistoleer is one of the worse choices for a player that wants to PvP or PvE.

the majority of the time I played was in thegood old days. shortly after the 90% pvp damage reduction thing i got bored and quit until now. combat was fast paced. you needed to target and adapt quickly. no one was buffed so attacking a pool besides mind was a viable option. armor sucked, so you didn't need a stun damage weapon. bleeding someone was almost considered griefing because medics sucked at healing the wounds. it was also a serious threat and people would occasionallyget incappedfrom it. i fired faster then a rifleman because the guns weren't that good yet and few people were master. once i picked up smuggler dirty fighting i was damn near invincible. even without lowblow, lastditch would almost kill people.

compare that to what i view my pvp options as now(i haven't actually participated yet because i haven't bought all the lastest gear since i'll be quitting until jump to lightspeed anyway). buffs make encumberance on armor a non-issue. they also make regen so fast that the tiny bleeds we can land now do no damage. anything but stun does about 10 damage because of the pvp reduction and armor. targeting anything but the mind pool is crazy. random ham moves and praying you hit mind seem a better option then attemping to concentrate on the pool we can.

as for pve it's gone from, "i hope i only draw one from that crowd and can manage to take it" to "get buffs, equip 80% kinetic, and put up a macro spamming an area attack"

What he said. If I wasn't so stubborn, I would've long ago dropped pistoleer. I even had it while I was master commando. Hardly ever used my pistoleer skills beceause they just couldn't compare. Then they nerfed commando and both were at the same level of uselessness in PvP. Dropped commando, added BH, had a great time for two weeks, then 80% armor came out and I couldn't do jack for damage.

Oh, happy day.

I realized I needed a Sonic, so I went to the Geonosian Lab to get a schem and died repeatedly, unable to get past the kwis due to lack of AP, low DPS, and nonexistant defenses. Dropped BH and picked up swordsman, went back, finally ended up with a Sonic. Two days later high-end stun armor comes out and I'm useless again.

Moral of the story: you can't win as a pistoleer. It's a hopeless effort.

Knockdown all around got nerfed fairly early, lots of professions all got hit atthe same time. I just pointed out the Disarm2 KD but it was an especially good one while it lasted the first few months.

Nice rundown. The only thing I can think of that you left out was the fan shot change. Initially it was single target, then they gave it the cone, then they tried to take the cone away on TC, only for Phil and the rest of the pistoleers to fight the change which never made it live. Good summary though, really makes you reflect on the state of the game when you think about it.

Yeah I forgot to comment on multi target shot too, but you get the idea. I was kinda trying to show what a joke the corresspondent program and Thunderheart are. Not against them personally, but just that the developers put on like they were going to take feedback from them and act on it. A year later, NOTHING CHANGED!

Sadly, I think that even the now mythical 'combat balance' won't save pistoleer. I imagine, it won't fix any of our borked specials, though it may give us a chance to win a few pvp matches due to the supposed armor and buff nerfs, but then again, with little to any working specials, it'll still be a frustrating profession to PVP or PVE with...

  • Republic Blaster certification fixed (not retroactive)

  • Description for Pistol Melee Defense 2 updated (no longer more damaging than itself)

  • Geonosian SonicBlaster, Featherweight FWG5, Modified Republic Blaster, and DE-10 Pistol added

  • After mega-bleed nerf, initial hit of bleeds returned to Health damage

  • Dodge animation fixed, no longer stops the Pistoleer in his/her tracks while running

The correspondent program certainly isn't a joke, but I would concede that it hasn't been terribly fruitful for some professions. Why not? I don't have an answer. I do have this exchange with Keldarin at Fan Fest:

Randonb: So is there anything you want me to bring back to Pistoleers specifically?
Keldarin: What would they want you to bring back?
Randonb: I think they'd like me to tell them they are scheduledfor a lot of attention in the Combat Balance.
Keldarin: Well everybody is getting a lot of attention in the Combat Balance.

He didn't want to sound like he was showing favoritism. I didn't report the conversation to you before because his response clearly wasn't what I was fishing for and I didn't want people reading too much into it -- this was a quick candid exchange and nothing more. Keep that in mind when evaluating it.

And Knockdown2 does nothing.

Actually I try to PvP with Pistoleer. Doesn't work against RIflemen, but I can take a lot of the other professions out there on even footing.

*attempts to run from TKA*

*shoots back and hits TKA for 20 damage*

*pistoleer attempts to melee defense against TKA but system message states that the distance is too great*

*TKA lungesfrom the same distance*

*pistoleer is hit badly, and cannot run fast enough*

*TKA hits with dizzy/KD and pistoleer falls to ground twitchin*
