Pistoleer Archive
Thread: New to pistoleer. Help me out.
Ok so I have been playing about 2 weeks. I just got pistols IV in marksman last night after killing everything I could get my hands on within 1500km of Coronet. I haven't been exploring much although I did go to Dantoine (mining outpost) but couldnt find much in the way to kill so I came back. Anyway. I am using a scout blaster right now and I noticed I am now qualified on FWG5 and I have heard people auctioning pre-nerf FWG5's. Should I be looking for one of these? Whats the difference pre vs. post nerf? How can I tell a pre-nerf? Also what tree should I pursue first in pistoleer? I play almost no PvP but will be getting into it more after I get a little more comfortable. I am also planning on working on unarmed to TKA, some combat medic and scout. I just recently discovered the joys of Dr buffs (wow how did I level without these before?). I usually just hit health shot I then spam body shot II til dead. Haven't been in a single group yet (not for lack of trying, Bloodfin is sure anti-social). Anyway just want to try an avoid any potential frustrations you could steer me away from. And if you have a nice pistol on Bloodfin, drop me a line, I will pay well. Also if you need a hunting partner/groupmate, drop me a line. I'm getting awfully lonely out there.
FWGs used to be my primary weapon until they gimped them. But, they fixed the Republic Blaster cert, so you can use that as a sub. The benefit is that it has armor piercing 1 on it, the disadvantage can be that it's an Energy weapon instead of Heat. Which brings up another point.
Any serious pistoleer will carry a small arsenal with them. A fast scout blaster, a nice damage Republic, a good DX2 (acid damage!) and a FWG (heat damage) are all staples. You can also look at the other pistols with stun and kinetic damage, but they are usually pretty weak. Still nice to have an extra weapon with that if you hunt things with high resists and armor-- a weak weapon that hits a vulnerability is better than nothing. I have a tweaked out Striker I use for this purpose.
As for leveling, I'd hit Techniques first. This is where you will get your good specials. Also work up the Stances line- You will get the knockdown and speed bonuses, which are awesome, too. From there it is up to you to decide on grips or marksmanship. Do you want to work on defense (Dodge) or accuracy first? Personally, I am alternating between them as I level, since I can't decide. ![]()
