Thread: So many skills...so little toolbar
What I REALLY wanna know is what pistol specials should I use? I am a Master Smuggler, and am working up the Pistoleer tree. There are so many pistol specials that I don't really know which ones to use! Should I use Body Shot 3? Doubletap? Stopping Shot? Fan Shot? Last Ditch? Low Blow? Panic Shot?
For me, there just seems to be too many options. I know that Low Blow and Panic Shot are definatly good specials which should be used...as it Last Ditch. However, those are all Smuggler skills...I'm at a loss for Pistoleer skills. Are all of them viable in certain situations? If so, what are those situations? So confused
Cool thx
Is disarming shot worth anything? How about Body Shot 3?
Also, in a Smuggler vs. Pistoleer special contest....which is better for KD, Low Blow or the Unarmed "Pistol Whip" hit? Obviously Low Blow is useful for ranged hits...but if an enemy gets into melee range should I use Pistol Whip or LB? Usually I use the pistol whip because I assume that it would hit better since it's designed to be used at melee range
Thanks!
Use Pistol whip when they get close and save low blow for range
I know what you mean about the toolbar thing. I'm not a smuggler anymore, had to drop it for fencer.....but with pistoleer, fencer specials and all my macros for changing stances, weapons, healing, getting on and off of my swoop, healing others and my food macros......I've run out of space on my toolbar. So I had to resort to making aliases and macros that I bind to my keypad. I have a macros binded to my keypad for looting, harvesting and different combination of specials......like /kneel; /aim; /Healthshot2; /Healthshot1; /pause 1; /peace; /stand. This is my opening macro for maximum bleeds that I have binded to 1 key. If frees up room on my toolbar for other things. I have 1 toolbar set for switching to all my different pistols and swords which takes up 1 whole toolbar. My Armor takes up another whole toolbar. My crafting macros take up another whole toolbar.
I have a lot of aliases that combine multiple commands so I can do stuff instantly which saves me from having to switch toolbars just to get from one macro to another.
As for the different specials. I find them all useful in specific situations. Bodyshot 2 and 3 are decent for one-on-one fights with unarmored enemies and lairs. Fan shot is perfect for groups of enemies (when they don't flank you). Pistolwhip is great for KD's (on a 30 second timer) so you can either get double damage while they are down or give you time to get some distance between you and those stronger enemies that don't have ranged attacks. Disarming shot 1 and 2 are supposed to be good specials but I never use them anymore....only occasionally when the lair is empty to get double or triple damage to finish it off (but mostly use my fencer skills for that). Stopping shot is mediocre until you have more pistol speed. Preferably master because the time delay really sucks for spamming it even though it does crazy damage. Personally I can get six 1200 fanshots of in the time that it takes to do two 2k stopping shots......more damage with fanshot even at random HAM damage.
The rest of the specials are broken (pistolmeleedefense 2, Disarming shot 2, mutlytargetpistol, even body shot 3 seems to be bugged).
Oh, I forgot double tap.....this has nice speed and if you have ranged support from marksman, you can use it in combination with threaten shot and warning shot to keep enemies away and do some good damage from a distance.....yes even at 60m with a DX2 (if you have the pistol accuracy)
another thing....I think these are bugs but even if healthshot 1, healthshot 2 and threaten shot miss they still do their intended effect on your target. Threaten shot is the only one that is inconsistant as even if you hit there is a chance it won't work depending on your mask scent skills, position, cover, distance and level of the target.
I am a Master marksman, Master pistoleer, Novice Fencer (holo said so...hehe), Novice medic and CH 0-1-1-0 So this is all from that perspective......like I said had to drop smuggler...
hope any of this helps! Good Luck!
I have macros set up that switch toolbars when i switch weapons that way I can get to the specials i need quickly without worrying about running out of toolbar space.
My toolbar looks like this:
F1 - Macro: /heal self
F2 - Hotkey to unequip or equip my primary pistol quickly.
F3 - Feign Death
F4 - Last Ditch
F5 - Low Blow
F6 - Panic Shot
F7 - Healthshot 1
F8 - Healthshot 2
F9 - Bodyshot 2
F10 - Burstrun
F11 - Peace
F12 - Stand
I've got some stuff on the second row as well, mostly non-combat macros such as my Faction Point transfer macro.
But, with that configuration on my top row, I never use anything else.
And, I'm currently 3/4/4/4 Pistoleer...
San's idea is a good one, it's what I use when I switch from my FWG5or my Rep Blaster to my VK's, also you can save yourself a lot of room by whipping up some homemade macros and assigning them to keys.
I've got my /healself; macro set to Cntrl+W, just seemed in the right place
/Burstrun is Cntrl+B
/Taunt is Cntrl+Z
None of these will overwrite any other key assignments and they're right there for the left hand.
Just make some macros, go into options, controls, key map, custom (or whatever type of action you're assigning) and reassign. Saves space and it's handy as anything.
