Thread: Pistoleer Getting started
I've blown through Master Marskman and Master Scout in a week and a half, and am now looking at the Pistoleer and BH trees.
I think I'll head towards Master Pistoleer, and just pick a few BH skills to compliment.
I've been reading through various threads, and they all say stuff like "Go here, kill this. With Fan Shot you'll race through the XP and get to Master in no time at all."
That's all very well, but us poor beginners don't have Fan Shot. The best we can do is bleed the mob and then run away like little girls (or is that just me?
).
Using this tactic, I can take out some of the larger mobs around Corellia to get about 1200XP per kill, but it takes forever, and once I tap the lair, I end up getting swarmed by several of them at once.
If I group and we take on Sharnaffs, I only get a few hundred XP per kill, as I simply can't keep up with the damage done by everyone else. So although it does mount up, it would take me an entire night to actually get very far.
I'm quite new to SWG, and have now been playing around two weeks, so I'm still a long way from learning all of the tactics.
Any hints on how to acquire XP a little quicker (without requiring frequent trips to the cloning centre) would be appreciated.
Killing a lair is a game of patience if you don't want to get a swarm of mobs all over you. Once the mobs around the lair are all dead, hit the lair a couple of times and /peace. Wait for more mobs to spawn from the liar and they won't attack you. Kill those mobs then repeat the process. Lairs usually only spawn an additional 4 mobs, so once they are all spawned and killed, lay waste to the lair.
Try not to hunt with people who are considerably higher level than you. They will continually output a lot more damage than you and leave you with no XP to gain. Team up with several people that are at, or not too far above your skill level and hunt that way. Never just 'auto-fire'. Always use a special, and always use the highest damage special you have. Your main goal is to simply inflict more damage than your teammates. This way you can maximize your XP.
If you like to solo another way to gain a lot more XP is to tame a low level pet (or have someone tame it for you). Just group with the pet and leave it in town when you go hunting. When grouped with a low level pet you can usually get several hundred more XP per kill, depending on the creature. For example: Solo and ungrouped, I will kill something and get 3800xp. Grouped with my trusty level 7 Ikopi (less than 1k HAM lol) I get 4400xp for the same kill. It may even be lucritive for you to use the pet to fight for you and work your way up to the first or second tier of Creature Handler to help you hunt higher level mobs while you're leveling Pistoleer. You can always surrender your CH boxes as needed.
