I hear a lot of complaints about the damage us Pistoleers are doing not be up to par. I too would love to have more, but I ran an interesting test. You all are prolly going to beat me silly for this but here is what I found interesting. Again this may be flawed because I ran this solely on enraged rancor levels. My template is as follows:

TKA 4-0-0-3

Master Rifle

Master Pistol

Smuggler DF

With full doctor buffs and brandy and some good ubese armor I noticed that while I did kill faster with my dxr acid rifle by a little, I also took much more damage, while with my dx2 pistol I took a little longer to kill but was untouched. With this template I have 132 melee defense. I used head shot 3 with rifle and used health shot 2 for pistol

My initial conclusions are this:

DPS depending on how you look at it is not the endall. I really liked having less BF from doing a number of these missions and the tradeoff was marginal. I did this while helping a friend grind sword. So maybe at least in pve we are better than what I am hearing here. Maybe we dont do the damage but maybe our defenses help make up for it a bit.

Good observation on that, I have found the exact same thing. Five stars for you, and nice template. I have a 95% match.

Yep that was my point. I really like pistols and I hope we get stronger ones but it is funny to be able to stand up in a melee fight just about as well as a melee person. With PMD2 I dont wack them as hard as melee professions but I can stand toe to toe. Plus I have quite a few damage types and the advantage of if they run out or range just shooting them. I find if I intimdate, use last ditch to stun and finish them with health shot, I hardly even get a scratch. I know you thinking well 2 of those attacks are not Pistols and thats true however I dont need to even use them. With fan shot pmd2 and health shot I may take just a smidgen more damage but still seem to be very tough on rancors..

On a PVP note. Before I went rifle instead of commando (old template from 4 months ago), I went into bestine and took on a riflemem/Pikemen. We were both buffed to the max. Both maxed out on skill points he was a master of both. I found out that he only had stun protection on his helmet. I managed to incap him with my geo pistol but I had use Zabrak equilibrium to do it as he was working on my mind hard. I ended up losing though because 2 other imps came in when I was running to DB him and I got incapped before I could DB him. He was shocked I incapped him by hitting with body shot 3. I since realized that health shot 2 is much better. It was a good fight and I consider it as holding my own.

Now I have rifle and forceOfwill as well as equilibrium. My plan is that I have 3 other friends and at the moment 3 others have riflle. One is a MHS as well and the other a Fencer and a final a doc. Hopefully we will prove to be worthy opponents.

Carbines & Rifles get hit more often by melee. And you're right, DPS isn't the end-all.

in pve I would agree. But since players accuracy and special to hit bonuses this goes out the window for pvp

i was trying to sample a deranged mantigrue the other day and it agro'd me.... since a dead creature is unsamplable i decided to wait around till it incapped me so i could stand up later and try again

then i noticed that i was regenerating faster than he was hitting lol!
i took out my fwg5 and gave him a harsh smack to the head and my HAM went considerably down..... i used the default attack and several healthshots at the end to finish off but had to heal myself several times during the fight
before i did not heal myself at all lol

people may think increased damage in the be all, end all...... just like stun damage

well, it's not.... HAM costs andstun resist mean a lot
