Thread: Why holsters?

Hi all,

Was just reading the board and came accross several posts asking for holsters to put in our pistols...

What is the point here?

The 2 arguments I read most often are:

1. We see too much ppl running around with their weapons.

Well, these ppl should unwield their weapon... I cannot imagine the Devs doing dozens of holsters types to fit for every existing weapon type. I always unwield my weapons and take off my armor when I enter a city... makes me feel like at home, out of danger.

2. Looks cool.

Sure it looks cool, but this would be one more object to load... in fact, even 2 more objets: holster + pistol... Right now, they are not loaded on our computers if they are not wielded. I am alreadyconcerned by the huge lags when many people are running around.

"Buy a new computer !"... yeah, why not... and with the JTL comming out, I will have to...

And using holster would mean that we would want some cool animation when wielding our pistols, taking them out of the holsters...

So I would like to have some other arguments on why should we have holsters?

And we can be sure that if Pistoleers get some, all other professions wielding weapons would get some or at least want some, and this is normal.

So what's the point in getting holsters, despite the "coolness"?

Right now, I don't see any major reason why we should have holsters.

So, if someone is willing to explain this to me, thanks

PS: I hope my english is not too bad Be tolerant please

There is no reason we SHOULD have holsters. We'd just LIKE to have holsters. It's pretty much purely for the "coolness" as you put it. If we went along with your arguments against it, we might as well just nerf clothing and have everyone wearing the same thing which is just a skin rather than objects. So, to summarize, there's no compelling reason other than for immersion/fun purposes.

Ok got it

Yeah, forget the part about skins and such

I would like to avoid the devs to work on 2nd priority issues, you know.

I think there are enough top/major issues in all the professions to spend some time adding fun stuff.

First, fix the top issues; then add holsters.

I guess erveryone agree with this.

These kind of stuff Pistoleers want (or who ever) should not be mixed with the top priorities, and I had this impression while reading some comments.

Anyway, this might be due to the fact that I am quite new on these boards... a lot of things to read, a lot of great ideas and comments.

Doesn't apply, there's only a delay if you switch from one weapon to another immediately AFTER equipping the first one.

example: I equip a DX2. I fire for 2-3 seconds, I can then instantly switch to a Republic[an] blaster.

example2: I equip DX2, I then switch to Republic[an] blaster. The DX2 will remain equipped and firing for 2-3 seconds before switching to the Republic.

Basically, you can't auto-switch weapons in a row.

Damn, there goes that idea. Thanks for clarifying.

Oh well, I tried to justify holsters. I guess "because they are cool" will have to be enough.

I do agree that there are more important things than holsters to address, but I also notice that the devs prefer adding new content to fixing existing content. If we are getting new stuff anyway, we may as well put in requests for what we would like. Asking for bug-fixes isn't getting us anywhere.

Holsters could quicken the 3 second weaponchange in combat. Just like real life, holsters are there for east access and quick draw. The better the holster the faster you can draw. Plus it would look REALLY cool! But of course wookiees probably can't wear them.

We don't have time to discuss this in a committee.

PoilDeCarrote- I totally agree with you. It's just sort of a cool thing, but really, I don't think it's that cool, and I agree that the lag would become a lot worse. Even just one more polygon to render per person, in a place like coronet would make a big difference. I just think this should be at the bottom of our wishlist.

Okay, I was just reading a thread about delays to equipping a weapon before I read this one, and the 2 have sort of gelled together for me.

Let me start by saying this, I think a delay is fine, but no way should a rifleman equip a T-21 as quickly as I can equip a scout blaster, especially as we have the title "quickdraw" available to us long before we even reach master.

That being said, how about pistol holsters that are a semi-rare loot drop schematic (like crafters aprons) that decrease the time it takes to equip your gun?

e.g. A regular pistoleer takes 3 seconds to draw his weapon, same as a rifleman. Think of this as the time it takes a pistoleer to reach into his pack and pull out his gun. This is not quickdrawing, and would be comparable to the time it takes for a rifleman to ready a gun that was strapped to their back. Now, if a pistoleer invested the money in a holster, he would be then able to draw his gun in 1-2 seconds (depending on the quality of the holster). This wouldn't apply to every gun in your pack, just the one favorite you assigned to the holster (2 guns/holsters with dual wielding?), the rest would remain in your pack and suffer the draw-time penalty.

It makes perfect sense to me, being "cool" is just a bonus.

it's just cool

with rollshot, dodge, and pistol whip, we're a fluff profession

running around and doing flips and rolls and stepping out of the way of shots- just really badass

about the additional rendering....... i disagree

it would, most likely, take the belt slot and would just be a larger image to add and instead of holding your pistol, it's in a holster. i really doubt it would be a serious lag issue; if that were the case, dusters would add a ton of lag compared to regular jackets, no?
