Please add Creature Handler and Squad Leader and Ranger and Smuggler to that list.

Also Combat Medic, but on the flip side of the coin

I've been a pistoleer with accent of smuggler or bounty-hunter for a long time now, and it's just as simple as this: Pistoleer is currently the red headed step child of SWG. We do signifcantly less damage than the other range professions, and don't even have the AE and KD abilities of carbineer.

The game's just broken right now. Any Pikeman, Pistoleer, Bounty Hunter, or Commando can tell you that.

Hopefully the Devs are really putting some good thought into the combat revamp... cause this isn't cutting it.

I do feel for the poor smugglers. They dont even have a deadline for their revamp. Pikeman certain have issues but they far out distance pistoleers on damage. BH's well I think they are still pretty tough, certainly a lot tougher than I am... being a master pistoleer and master squad leader. But I will hold most of my comments until patch 11... they better deliver is all I have to say otherwise these boards are going to light up. I can very easy see patch 11 being the straw that broke the camel's back. A lot of tensions are being held at bay with the promise of the combat balance.

Actually Duedroth, it isn't that Creature Handlers are weak or broken, it's that players are strong. You are better off buying some Composite, a set of buffs and brandy/canape, and stacking your defenses.

After the CB, when players start having to worry about peskydetails like taking damage, we are going to see a dramatic increase in the usage of pets once again. This perception of Creature Handlers being broken will disappear. I only hope it isn't to the levels that we saw pre-uber CH nerf, and that droids and faction pets are equally viable options.

The only problem being that the pets wont be any better a tank than a player is with good armor cause they can still get buffed and eat food(yes I know there is creature buff food but with auto storing ro the pets running off they run out quick) I know they will be more popular but not by much. At any rate time will tell and all we can do is pay to wait.

You're right, time will tell. History will judge my prediction.

Given the choice between a pet and another player though, most players take the pet, even if it isn't quite as powerful.

Anyway, what I'm talking about is exactly why Creature Handlers have remained untouched after the nerf, despite waning (plummeting?)numbers and a public outcry. Thunderheart also once said (paraphrased): "If you can do more with a player and his pet than you can with 2 players, we have a problem." I fully expect that philosophy to be maintained.

Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack.

Well to all who feel BH pistols is worth the scatter, speed and accuracy, I am here to tell you that in pvp it is simply not viable without much support. I really love pistols but as much as I like eyshot and torso shot I just gave them up to go back to old template, maybe I will try modding it a bit. Here is what I found out. First some stats.

My BH pistol character was bh 0-0-4-0 , master pistol, rifle 0-1-0-0( for +10 ranged defense). The problem is that left me with including my aauk rings and a military backpack +50 melee defense and +45 ranged defense. It left me with no combat equilb and +20 defense vs posture change. Here is what I did to counter it.

Picatta pie +50% on top of my 105 dodge.

verg something +25 points on melee defense bringing my melee defense to 75

Both dance and music buffs from my other character and doc buff from my 3rd character.

added one canape as well and 2 brandies.

My scatter was 2mil credits and it powered up to 420.

I thought I had a chance against a very tough elite rifle/fencer/pistol combo. Nice imp and really was an honorable opponent.

With all of this in the end, I could not touch this fencer riflemen. Im a zabrak and never had trouble getting up from a kd dizzy combo but I just was kd dizzied and that was the end.

Then, I dropped the rifle piece and picked up intimidate. That helped a lot against him, but then he simply pulled out his jawa and beat through my stun shield and 37% stun helmet and took all my ent and music buffs down. I used my geo and my scatter and even a powered up 333 dx2. All to know avail.

I then fought his buddy who proceeded to dizzy me and posture change me down and you know the rest of that story. These 2 imps stayed in anchorhead and proceeded to take down groups of 4 buffed masters of there respective professions. Lots of whinning and claiming they were cheating but they were not. they were simply stacking defenses properly and combining it with the hardest hitting professions.

Before, when I had master Rifle, Master Pistol, and Smuggler DF. I never stayed down. I could put an intimdate and stun on a fencer and after that his damage was useless. I never had a problem with dizzy and posture down. Thak is too filling for me and doesnt help on the posture change stuff.

So, I have decided to regrind my old template. I may test before I pick up smuggler df some of the tka line as the defenses there are good. Not as good as fencer but with pistol Im not sure the added defenses are worth it. With tka I get force of will which has saved my bacon when macroed properly.

Unless someone here can tell me a blatent error of mine, I just feel at this point defenses is king. Rifle would be fine if it had less ranged and melee defense, but with all you get from it stacked with other professions, it just is really a must to have if you like pvp and do not want to go the CM route.

Anyway, I hope this helps ones. Oh btw if pvp is not your bag then BH pistols is fine.

I think you just made the clearest statement about the state of the game and forums as of late. Mostly the combat professions, but with their tales of "every profession having a roll in combat and the GCW" many others are holding their breath for the CB. I'm master pistoleer and master ranger, so I have two gimped professions on me. Why I stick with them, I'm still not sure, but I better see a big change in pistoleer after CB, and some change in ranger.

I also believe CH has a good chance of making a combat after the CB. Remember its already gone through the changes of the CB, so it should be not getting any changes, but be as it is now. So add that on top of the fact they are lowering all armor resist levels, all weapon damage levels(except DE-10), and all buff levels, and adding in the new HAM/special cost thingy, it could be interesting.

My prediction is that all these players that started playing after the first couple months, and only now how to fight with buffs and armor, are going to be in for a surprise.

LMAO. Sad but true. The biggest problem with this game is armor and buffs. People can say whatever they want about whatever profession but it all comes down to the fact that armor is too strong and buffs are too high. I dropped rifles for pistol and smuggler(I know, I was smoking crack) and as soon as I hit novice pistoleer I have done all my levelling up on Dath with armor and buffs. It shouldn't be this way, hopefully they fix it.
