Thread: Featherweight vs Regular FWG5

I've been looking around for an FWG5. Which do you reccommend, the regular or the featherweight?

The trends I'm seeing as I shop around are:

The advantage to the regular is a small, but not insignificant, speed/damage/HAM superiority.
The advantage to the fetherweight is the attribute bonuses (counterattack 5, dodge 5, pistol accuracy 5) .

What do you think? Are the attribute bonuses worth it?

If you're on Starsider, how much would you pay? What are good stats for this weapon?

Thanks.

Featherweights made by master weaponsmiths (or even just having the appropriate trees) are 'vastly' superior to the normal FWG5's.

Shop around and you'll find that featherweights can do more damage, have better speeds and lastly 'much' better accuracy (upwards of +77 at ideal range)

I have always used the regular FWG5's. I have a nice krayted FWG5 that I like. I havent seen much higher damage on the featherweight's verses the regulars. The featherweights are better though.. I just never used them.

I'd rather have a prenerf fwg5 for the raw damage and speed. The Featherweights are decent guns though, they have some alright mods.

The differences in damage/speed between the featherweight and regular FWG5 will be quite different on each server.

The reason is that the featherweight needs a named resource that the regular FWG5 does not. So if a nice quality spawn of the named resource has appeared on your server, then the featherweight can approach or best the regular gun. In that case the other attributes of the featherweight clearly outweigh the regular.

On Valcyn we have had ok spawns of the resources and I always use a featherweightwith my pistoleer alt.

As for the price question, it will be different depending on each server's economy. But on Valcyn, I sell a lot of the featherweights at 10-12k.

Thanks, it's always nice to get such thoughful explanations.

What does the Krayt component do to the gun?

If you can get your hands on a pre-nerf FWG5, take it. It's vastly superior to the Featherweight FWG5, in damage and speed (I have an unsliced, unpowered 92-247 damage pre-nerf FWG5 I snagged from a weaponsmith). However, the Featherweight FWG5 often beats the regular post-nerf FWG5s, so pick one of them up if you can't get any pre-nerfs.

Kryat can no longer be ussed in FWG's.

All weapons that used both a Blaster Power Handler and a Projectile feed Mechanism (namely the FWG, the Launcher & the Scatter) where changed back in Sept or Oct of last year so that they would only have the Projectile Feed Mechanism (except the Scatter which now used the BPH and can still be Kryated).

This is why a pre-nerf FWG is far superior to the one made now. The pre-nerfs would get the damage and speed mods of both components. On my server standard pre-nerf FWG's are 212 max damage with a speed of 1.2 unsliced. You can still find these weapons, but they will cost you. I have a few of these guns, and also a few that used krayt tissue in the Blaster Power Handler that dramacitally increase the damage (303 max damage 1.1 speed unsliced, bot got damage slices of 31% & 32% so they ended up at 396 & 399 max damage respectively).

Those pre-nerf ones don't last forever though.

There is still one weapon that hardly anyone uses (and only one species can) that still uses Proj Feed Mechs and BPH's......the bowcaster
