Does it actually help while in combat to keep running around? Will you actually get hit less while moving? I appreciate any opinions and educated answers.

I generally move all the time; especially when using Fan Shot. I dueled our guild's TKM/Fencer and actually won using Fan Shot. I stayed out of his range and dodged most of his blows. He got me on round two when he used his DoT Stone Knife to poison my mind. Too bad i didnt have my doc macros running.

Pistoleers get Accuracy While Moving skills that help too. . .

Enemies suffer an accuracy penalty if you are moving, and the pistoleer also has +accuracy while moving mods, so moving around will probably be better than staying still....

ALWAYS move if you are against a melee profession, and in the direction opposite where the enemy is

If you are fighting a carbineer or rifleman, I would suggest closing in to melee range and running circles around them....and hope they don't have a backup melee profession.

Is there any calculation on the penalty ranged or melee profesions suffer against a moving target as apposed to a still target? And, does it hurt our dodge ability at all to be moving all the time? Or, I'm I just looking way too deep into this.

Moving in combat is a trade off. Everyones accy goes down, both those shooting at you and yours. Yours just goes down less then everyone elses.

It's kinda like in that movie where the blind guy/girl turns off the light to save themselves.

Dodge is a constant, only states and food modify dodge ( perhaps BF as well). Running makes no diff.

As far as ranged/melee vs moving, SOE don't like to share the "back end" numbers for stuff like that but from my experience melee suffers more than ranged vs a moving target. Melee also gets some fairly large in class accy bonuses so it's not a huge diff.
