Thread: Combat Targetting
Sorry I'm posting this here, but I couldn't find a general combat forum, and I'm a pistoleer, so I'll just put this here.
Combat targetting is a HUGE hassle in the game. You get aggro'd by 2, 3, even 4 or more enemies at times and trying to pull off moves on specific ones is extremely difficult. You may have like 20 other creatures in your line of sight and you have to tab cycle through most of them just to get to the one you want... and if you're going a lil too fast, you might go past the one you want (and using the cycle backwards does not always target the prior one in the cycle). All the while, you're trying to run away, stay alive, and avoid running into even more aggros. Often times you end up pulling off your moves on an innocent creature, even, dragging them right into the battle with you. What is this? It's unecessary hassle.
I truly believe there should be options not only to cycle through ONLY attacking NPCs, but also to target the closest attacker to you. On top of this, I believe it would be a great help to allow players to enable an option to have attacking-enemy HAM bars line themselves up vertically on the right side of your screen (just like the group HAMs do on the left side) which would not only allow the player to easily monitor each of the enemies'HAMs,range, andstatus, but also allow the player to click the HAM and thus quick-select the target of their choice. And yes, I know tab-targetting isn't the only way to target, but trying to click an enemy's head to target them is extremely difficult....especially during combat. It's hard enough to even click a player running by just to see who they are. Why doesn't tab targetting allow you to cycle through PCs along with NPCs?
Thanks for your time... if there's a better forum for this suggestion, I'm sorry I didn't find it. But I really wanted to put this out in the open and see what everybody thought of it. Does anyone else have as hard a time "multitasking targets" as I do?
You have to hit your peace key (defaulted to ctrl+\ I believe) and then it will cycle to the next one that hit you right after that. Still a pain in the rear though I think.

I swear (but am probably mistaken) that before the big update cycling worked more precisely... in other words it did cycle based on distance.
Now though, I have the same problem that you mentioned and at times it can really suck if there are some mobs near by that are social.
I had a destroy missionon a cadet camp and was trying to cycle through to pop 'em all with a bleed to get things started. Well, on the very edge of my radar was a camp of Drall (only one aggressive in the pack) and as I was cycling (very fast mind you) apparently one of my shots strayed way over to the Drall and they didn't like that. Very shortly there after I have like six Care Bears running up the hill at me as I'm finishing off the cadets. I had to run away trying tocycle through the Drall trying to peace them all to make em them go away so I could get back to business.
Also, it seems to like to find lairs first. I can be fighting rasps or something (i.e. swarming, social guys) and they'll be like 5 of them pecking at my head, I drop one, hit cycle and some lair way off to my right or left gets targeted.... I don't like that. It's not 'realistic' per se (otherwise my character must really have ADD or something...) ![]()
However, I wouldn't put it past the Devs right now for this to be an "as intended" stealth change to make combat 'harder'....
