Thread: Rifle/carbine or pistol when you are with ST:s and droids?
The question is in the topic.
Which one of those profs is the most usefull to be when you are grouped with stormtroopers, pets or droids?
I mean, the rifles have a little to long range requirement, the pistols are good couse they have short range so I can heal my troopers fast and the carbine is something in between that... What do I know?
And another thing: Is it the exact same chance that a Stormtrooper, pet or droid will hit the mind, the action or the health pool?
Or is it like: Chance to hit health: 70%, Mind: 10%, Action 20% ?
Thank you very much if you can help me.

It really depends on your skill set, unless you are thinking of building a new char, then take what you like.
The ranges in my opinion do not really matter too much with pistol. I am just as accurate at 60m as at 30. Having done at least 300+ investigation missions where I was shooting at that distance I can attest to that.
I could say the same with carbine, but the carbineers are really hurting, so you have to look at HAM costs and broken specials.
Rifleman come to their own ONLY at master where they get the huge speed bonus, I know at marksman level, it was the slowest tree to advance in due to slow speed of rifles. Also of course at melee range (especially with warping mobs) you will be hurting due to 2.5X penalty.
As far as STs go, my experience is with shooting them and getting shot. Most of them I beleive are carbineers, as that is what I have noticed for the most part. However pets might be different then NPCs.
Hope this helps.
One of the biggest problems with the Pistoleer tree is the absence of state changing specials. One of the biggest problems with the Rifleman class is the 2.5 damage multiplier (combined with mob warping).
As a pet user, you side-step these problems to a good extent (in PvE).
You should ask yourself, "Am I going to take Rifleman all the way to Master." If so, that is probably the way to go, as Master Rifleman blows away Master Pistoleer in DPS (especially in PvE, where AOE damage and AP comes into play often).
But a non-Master Pistoleer will generally have an easier time of it than a non-Master Rifleman.
