Thread: Mfencer/Mpistoleer is it worth it?

I was reading through the FAQ, when to my dismay i stumbled upon a neat tidbit of info. It was something along the lines of the Dodge, KD, and other defences for Master Pistoleer and Master fencer not stacking due to the fact that for them to work you have to have either a One handed weapon equiped, or a pistol equiped. Meaning that Fencer Dodge works only while fencing, and Pistoleer dodge works only while Pistoling =P (andI'm guessing it's the same for KD and the other defences)
Before i go through the effort of mastering fencer for these extra defences, can anyone tell me the truth about this, or is it just one of the other mysteries theinfest this infernal game

melee def, range def, dodge, block, etc all cap at 125
so you could get 4/0/1/0 into fencer for capped dodge and great defense bonus and still have enough for smuggler dirty fighting =P

I believe you but can you prove this statement? My bro is so skeptical and he makes a good argument about how things become gospel on these forums. Where did you get this?

It's not really something "rumored". It was implicitly stated in the update notes of a patch some months ago. Defense stackers were breaking 150+ with defenses, and becoming essentially invincible, especially with Dodge. The 125 point cap was put in place to prevent that.
However, using Akuuan rings at +5 ranged defense apiece, you can still break the cap, as they don't apply to it for some reason.
However, anything over 125 dodge is wasted points. 4/0/1/0 is the highest you need to go in Fencer if you're simply looking formaximum melee/ranged/dodge defense with Pistoleer.
The defenses are great, but keep in mind that a combat balance is coming. It's been hinted at (in more ways than one) that dodge IS going to become weapon-specific, and that the master hybrid classes are going to recieve a bit more treatment (or, alternatively, remain stronger while the rest are balanced and toned-down.)

Worldmaker is correct. It was in the patch notes and I thought this was fairly common knowledge now-a-days.

But you also don't want to be relying solely on pistols as your main weapon, since, as we all know, our profession is rediculously broken. Master fencer works great in PvP, and pretty damn good in PvE. And with both the defenses of fencer and pistoleer, your almost untouchable. If your looking for something to fill up the rest of your points to rival dirty fighting, go with master brawler. You get a 20m KD attack (great for those damn kiters
) warcry 2, and intimadate 2. Its a good choice. I'm rarely beat in pvp with this template.

Well I thought it was too however, it seems many things turn into "common knowledge" that are not substanciated. Besides, not to knock our rep but just because he said it does it make it correct? Where are the patch notes. Im just not finding them. I can give you a lot of examples where "Common Knowledge" is incorrect.
For example. Intimidate. Many think that it is not stackable or that the timer on it is 10 seconds. On the rifle forums its said that the ap3 weap t21 is not currently having the the +50% damage increase from ap3 toar1 . The armor percentages for example the ar1 vs ap0 cuts damage done by 50%, however ap2 vs ap1 only increases damage by 25%. My point is all of these things fly around and things break and so forth. So without a dev telling us, it becomes blurry as to what is right and what is not.
I just wanted this confirmed by some "official notes"
Ya know what, forget wasting time on this. Things change with the wind and things break. The best thing to do is to keep testing your character and use what is best in your individual circumstance..

for the time now, yes, all defences stack to 120 cap, BUT acording to combat balance release notes, when CB goes live, they will no longer stack, you get the X fencer defences for holding fencer weapon and the Y pistoleer defences for holding the pistol
well this is good and bad, bad for those profs without any defence at all (after devs stated if you want defences get them from other profs...commando forum post) and yes cus there will be no defence staking therefor gamepaly will be more fun
thought this makes no greate sence (what stops me of using my ninjutso tecnikes if im holding a Glok pistol), in my eyes it would make sence IF the higher rates of defence provailed, ex you got 40 vs KD in pistols, and you got 60 in fencer, so fencer KD defence would be the dominant wile using both weapons
the same rule for all the other defences, to avoys crazy templates, you would have to be master of both profecions for this to appened 
well but since its SOE way or the hightway, i gess at least this will mean that ppl will start doing what they realy injoy instead of a defence cap spree

I'm a Master Gunfighter / Master Fencer and these defenses do stack. Mastering Fencer is definitely worth it because of Center Of Being. You won't ever touch a pistol again. Hahah!
