How do these come into play, mathematically speaking?

I have an FWG5 i made, I think it's stats are..

67->197

1.6

Wound : 26.1%

0/+34/??

I was talking to somebody who claimed his was WAY better w/stats of

68->203

1.8

Wound : 18.2%

0/+22/??

I forget the 64m range mod, but they are the same.

The guy that sliced mine said that his (the 2nd) was MUCH bebtter however, I'm taking mine over that one all day long, for the main reason of the wound % stat, secondly the mid-range mod on it. Seems to me people get WAY to caught up in min/max damage w/o paying attention to the rest of the stats.

Anyway...how does wound % come into play?

DPS Gun 1 : 82.5

DPS Gun 2 : 75.28

So say, just for argument, gun 1 over 100 seconds of play, that would be 8250 pts of damage, but how does the wound % play? Since it's 26%, does that mean over those 100 seconds only 26% of the 8250pts actually hurt someting making the damage over 100s 2145 for gun1, and1355 for gun2?

Secondly...

How do the range mods work? At 20m w/this gun you see +34 over the guys head, what does this mean?? 34% bonus to stats? 34 is my lucky lotto number?

I believe that your gun is much better than the other one. Yours is faster, is only 6 points less max damage but you are correct that your wound chance percentage and range modifier make yours the better gun. You will hit more often and have a higher chance of causing long term wounds. Wound chance percentage is the chance per hit that you have of causing permanent wounds.

You are also correct that people get hung up on max damage. As a weaponsmith I wish people would look below the damage and speed line sometimes. Range modifiers and HAM costs are important as well. Unfortunately most people want damage and speed on their weapons and don't care about the to hit chance and damage that the weapon causes to them.

JEes...DUH! I feel like an idiot now. Wound % = wounds, i was confusing wounds w/damage. Boy, and i'm a master doctor ?

And yes, as a weaponsmith (2nd character) it's so annoying for people to look at min/max and speed as the only deciding factors in telling me which of my guns are crap and why, and it gets tiresome to have to explain to them over and over about the importance of other stats.
