Thread: Doesn't anyone here think Master Riflemen are a tad overpowered?
1.) Master riflemen get +160 to accuracy mods compared to the +94 that Pistoleers/Carbineers get.
2.) Riflemen target the Mind pool, which can't be healed
3.) Riflemen shoot way too fast. 200-300 damage to the mind every 2 seconds anyone?
4.) Uber high damage weapons. 700-800 max damage laser rifles that costs less than 20k anyone? The Jawa Ion rifle which does *stun* damage cuts right through composite armor can be sliced/pwr'd to have around 400max damage.
5.) *Only* 92 skill points to master, leaving a whole 158 skill points left to dabble or perhaps even master other professions.
6.) Human riflemen can migrate their stats fully towards the mind pool, thus being able to spam specials without worry. Ever heard of a Rifleman/Doctor anyone? Yeah, those are the guys who you never seem to be able to kill...
3) overpowered weapons? hmm go get some krayt republics made, those can easily reach 400 to 500 dmg with descent tissues, dmg slice, and power ups. Couple that with stopping shot to deal mega dmg.
4) if you dont like stun dmg, have a armorsmith make you a composite helment with a stun layer.
5) only 92 pts to master rifleman, hmm last time i checked it was only 92 pts to master pistoleer. In addition you guys have the option to dabble in BH for insane and accuracy bonus, torso shot and eye shot, or you have the option to get smugglar dirty fighting which has some of the best specials in the game.
6) they can still be killed just get buffed yourself, use doc buffs, musician buffs, foods, spices or drinks. Rifleman are usually always buffed due to their insane mind cost, Every master rifleman carries some form of food buff and moun good usually.

oh yeah rifleman are suppose to be heavy hitters. Rifles are suppose to do more dmg then pistols
And for crying out loud, STOP TRYING TO GET OTHER PROFESSIONS NERFED! Focus on getting your profession fixed.

Anywho, rifleman are supposed to do more dammage, but they shouldnt be doing more damage faster than pistoleers.
Charb, here's an idea: Don't attack in a close knit group. The Area of Effects only affect a 45 degree cone in front of the person. A small amount of tactics, where you spread around your opponent would have earned you a victory.
As for the "overpowering presence of riflemen" perhaps you should take into account that PISTOLEERS aren't the only class in the game! Yes, a rifleman will devastate all when lemmings move in a clump towards him or her on an open field where the rifleman gets to spam strafe2 from 64m in. (Even better when those lemmings don't use burst run) What you don't take into account, though, is that when in a city, a rifleman is at their weakest. I dunno how many times I've been beaten to death by low level Teras Kasi because I walked around a corner, got knocked down and one or two shot. The speed and accuracyissue, I agree with; a pistoleer should be able to fire an SR combat pistol at speed cap using their top special when they are Master Marksman and Master Pistoleer. To that end, I don't think that rifleman are overpowered, I think they are where they should be, along with everyone else. Your comments about the 700 damage laser rifles are misguided, you are using a huge exception to say that rifleman are overpowered. Furthermore, a laser rifle has VERY low minimum damage and are destroyed by the new damage mitigation system. The Republic blaster on the other hand, has very little damage range, and serves a pistoleer well regardless of opponent.
In regards to the Doctor buff comments, any rifleman CAN and often does set up their character to utilize buffs. True, it does limit the mind loss suffered by the rifleman. However, a pistoleer/doctor can do the exact same thing, furthermore, can heal their special costs with medpacks, meaning that they will always be able to stay outin the field longer than a rifleman.
The biggest points you don't bring up is these: Up until very recently, rifleman was a very hard levelling game. It was so much harder than pistol, that I agree that they should be better than a pistoleer at master. Also, rifleman don't get any sort of knockdown, which I know is a staple for pistoleers to deal with melee classes.

So, my advice is one that I've made for a long time: THINK before you fight, especially in PvP. Identify your strengths and weaknesses against each foe before committing to a battle. When carrying a rifle, I avoid fights in the cities, since its easy for me to be beaten by a melee class sitting behind a corner out of my line of sight. As a rifleman, I also keep range from commandos and melee as well as maneuver to keep all my opponents in that nice lethal cone of damage that I deal.
As a pistoleer, I know that I have a very nice melee knockdown and my own area effect attack. I don't stand at range against a rifleman, I know I'm going to lose. Instead, I try to distract that player and flank them, knocking them down with that handy pistol whip and then blasting them with stopping shot, further disrupting their combat queue. Oh yeah, and BURST RUN in so that you close distance on even a kiting enemy.
The final thing to remember: different classes are better in different areas. While a rifleman may destroy people in the field, a melee is the king of a city where movement options and line of sight are limited. Unfortunately for pistoleers, they are an intermediate class that is good in both situations, but shines in none, so you have to come up with good combos and strategies to make up for those situations (or take on the melee in a field and a rifleman in the city).

And for the record, I am a rifleman/pistoleer, so I do have some idea of what I'm talking about. I have always been frustrated by the negativity in these forums, it makes the posters look like they are immature. Perhaps instead of focusing on the weakness of your class, you should supplement your class, either with skills or forethought to overcome your shortcomings. Thats what I had to do in spades to get to be a high-level rifleman, especially soloing creatureswhile dealing with that nasty 250% melee damage modifier that has luckily disappeared. And finally, a complete renovation of the combat system is coming around in the next month or two, so its more than pointless to complain about a system that won't be here for but a short time longer.

Rifleman are overpowered at the moment...because of speed. They should not be shooting as fast as pistoleers with their armor penetration weapons. But all this will be addressed so just have patience and the speed cap will be fixed to accomodate what was intended (not rifles shooting once per second).

How about, instead of yelling "Nerf Riflemen" or "Nerf Pistoleers," we yell at SOE to fix the freaking combat system. It's so broken right now I don't see how we can come to any conclusions.
