I'm an "apprentice gunfighter" 0 0 2 1and i have to say i really enjoy it and pistols suit my character. After reading these forums i am wondering if there's any point in carrying on with it . I'm mostly into PvE rather than PvP, so can i experience any of the high level content like the DWB with only a couple of "working" specials or do i have to become one of the uber proffs like swordsman or TKA?

By the way, I was planning on being master smuggler master pistoleer - is this a viable combo for fighting high level mobs?

I think it really depends, it depends on the quality of your equipment, mostly when it comes to PVE, there are also a few tricks one can learn that can give you an edge, after all, PVE pits you against a computer, and while computers are fantastic machines, they can be...gasp...exploited by, what one would hope, be superior intellect and such. But, I have found that the pistoleer/smuggler combo is fun, I enjoy playing it. And while I might not solo a krayt or Acklay with it, I have fun with it....and thats the most important thing. But, if you expect that combo to dominate every PVE mob, then you're probably training up the wrong tree...maybe doing master pistoleer/BH pistols instead?

But then again, nothing is more fun that spamming fan shot with a DX pistol in the geo lab at hordes of crazed geos watching everyone (at least thenoobs) around gradually get angier and angier as you maintain a solid loot monolopy...priceless...thats worth mastering pistoleer alone..

From what I hear Master Pistoleer/Master Smuggler/Master TKA is a very viable template.

I have a Master Marksman/Smuggler/Pistoleer combo with 0/0/3/0 in Commando (flamethrower).

When fully armored, brandied, fed, & buffed, there's only a few things outside of the new dungeons (Geo, Corv, DWB) that I can't solo.
I could probably use FD and DOT's to solo them then, but I hate waiting.

Fan shot with a launcher pistol pisses off other people in your group, because they don't like the lag.
It can also of make people who're not used to hunting with you panic when a half dozen mobs start rushing the group.
But don't worry. I'm on it.

I'm lovin it.

that brings up a good question ive been wanting to ask, how good is the launcher pistol when you use it in conjunction with the pistoleer special. Im not a commando but im pretty sure its AP0 Blast, does that do it against many high lvl mobs? The reason i want to know is because come friday, hopefully, i will have alot more skill points to play with and i was split between stacking my defenses or picking up smuggle and novice commando to complement BH pistols.

Actually, I'm not too sure, but I used to be a commando, 4344 pistoleer and 0040 smuggler and I used to shread ATSTs like they were kreetles...

Well you'll need to group up to get far in those places but ya you can be an asset. You certainly won't be the tank. If you want that you should check out tka or swordsman. Master Smuggler/Pistoleer is a good combo and compliment each other pretty well IMO. I myself plan on atleast getting the pistol line of Smuggler for obvious reasons. With only 2 specials in the pistoleer prof woth using the extra specials will open more doors. If you got the skill points I alsoagree tkm/MP/Msmuggler is a great all around templet. I myself will keep fencer but if I didn't have that I would be doing that templet as well. Having been tkm twice I found it very useful.

If you want to be a Pistoleer, I would be a Pistoleer. The Combat Balance is supposed to fix the vast majority of our problems and equalize the professions, more or less. Keep in mind I haven't seen it (nobody has) so this doesn't have my pledge, but that is what we are told.

If you pick up another profession, you may find yourself back here later.

Really, we've had some long time Pistoleers. If they can make it this far, you can make it through the CB. You have a ways to go to get to master, and that should keep you occupied. Smuggler is looking like it could be a really fun profession after the revamp (I've been casually reading on some of the suggestions and Greenmarine's responses) and you already have an interest in it, so Pistoleer goes well with that.
