Thread: Master Pistoleer & loss of faith
thats not entirely true that pistoleers cant solo krayts... tehy can under one very special circumstance... the dirty fighting 1 (smuggler skill) skill "feign death" heres how you can do it.
double bleed (health shot 1, health shot 2 [they stack]) and then hit feign adn take a hit (make **edit** duse your fully doctor buffed and wearing nice full suit of composite so u dont get incapacitated in one-2 hits cuz those things can hit you from pretty far. if your courages hit your bleed macro again, adn if the bleeds are larger, they will override your previous bleeds on the next tics of bleed damage. when your bleed wears off, repeat, and do this over and over until its dead. try to make suere you get at least a few regular shots in if you can, in case some noob runs by and kills its last 1hp before u get up from feigning and steals ALL the xp.
i have only played for the past week since augest, but ive been able to figure that much out and it works pretty consistently. worrying about other peopel stealing the kill / loot is the problem with thi
because i havent played in a long time, i never managed to get any of those crazy krayt enhanced fwg5's etc. I was given a nice _30 dmg/-.3 speed tissue launcher (im also a nov commando/ df2 smuggler/4040 scout/2200medic/ 1021 pistoleer (was a master, long story as to how my toon got crapped up to its current state in pistoleer) witha shoddy 20% damage sllice so using a max damage powerup i can hit liek 415 dmg ma on my gun and get decent bleeds with it. after that i usualy use my RB (1.6 61-200 RB)
i did this last weekend, and i had no problems.
Yes, I'm afraid that djswift2k is one point. The combination he described does work wonders..one thing he forgot to mention with this tactic is that if you do it right you'll get maxed xp for the fight.
Those that say a pistoleer should not go krayt hunting, I beg to differ.I was a part of a 6 man group, everyone had pets except of me....well I had one but that was just my mount (not a fighter). Well, long story short, using part of the above tactic (without feign death). I was the only one left standing after the krayt was dead. I got massive xp and it only took about a minute most. I was a little disappointed because I was all hyped for a vicious fight and yet it was too easy. After looking at the combat log, I saw that I was doing the second most damage of the pack.....the guy who was doing the most damage died really quick as he only had BE clothing on....so pistoleer can and should go krayt hunting....don't know about solo, but with the right tactics and strategy, you can do anything.
now one thing that I have to say is that from the post i've read in the pistoleer forum, I'm basically seeing no pistoleers talk of using a combination of weapons. You can take one or both of the other weapon trees in marksman and use those as well. it will make you a very effective fighter. I don't just depend on pistols alone, simlpy because they are the lowest damaging weapons in the game.Which they should be.....but they are the fastest.....unfortunately, rifleman is bugged to where they can shoot as fast as or faster than a pistoleer....this will be fixed. So pick up some rifleman skills and/or carbine skills. just getting those in marksman gives you the ability to use all the weapons those professions have to offer with the exception of the ones you get under novice carbineer and novic rifleman. Then there's only the elite carbine and the T21 left after that.
I have rifleman 4 and carbineer 4 from the marksman tree and I can do 2000 damage with rifles and a little less with carbines.....that's with no elite rifleman or carbineer skills. If I only depended on pistols, I probably couldn't solo much that con red to me. I always start with rifle or carbine first the switch to pistols. I think of my pistols as finishing weapons. as a novice pistoleer I only get about 800 damage with specials and about 250 without them. So in my opinion, if i"m to take out anything challenging, I'm gonna need some other skills, like bh, commando, rifleman, carbines....and so on.
The great thing about this game that others don't allow you to do is make hybrid characters. What other games will allow you to become a pistoleer, rifleman and medic at the same time......
As far as I'm concerned the following are extreme necessities for any combat class.
your combat profession of choice
medic skills (in battle timing is crucial and to put the timing of healing me in the hands of someone else is not a bad thing, but can get you incapped or killed since they have no idea how much your specials are costing you and/or they may not be fast enough or able to stay in range to heal you. so without being able to heal yourself you are risking death)
scout - exploration tree (terrain negoatiation/speed burst efficiency and mask scent) a lot of the time survival in SWG is pure in your ability to escape.......
and some kind of brawler skills especially if your a carbineer or rifleman
these may not be important to others but even in the military every member of the infantry knows how to do first aid. Mask scent is a luxury but it comes with the explore tree. Negoatiating terrain, well would you rather walk up that hill or run when the next hit or two will incapp you because you are low on mind and need to get away to stay alive. Even with exploration 4, melee npc's can still stay within 4 meters of you when your running from them. so walking up a hill is not an option. Speed burst is self-explanatory.....
I guess this is why most people are BH/pistoleer or commando/pistoleer because pistoleer alone will never put you in the top tier of combat classes.
Remember in war, the pistol is the last option next to death........
Made master pistoleer 15 mins ago.... dropping in 15min
It sure has hell wasent fun. My commando friend outdamaged me so bad i could cry, and dont get me started on TKA's. I loved KD thoo, was fun
Maybe im using a sucky gun or something, but pistoleer was not my thing.
yeah, thanks for the clarification philosopher, it is with teh compination of smuggler and pistoller that i can do it, but im using healthshot 1 and 2 to take it down in health (marksman and pistoleer skills) i just use feign to make sure i dont get slain. you could just as easily burst run away and wait on the side of the cliff from out of range.
PS you can get other pistols that shoot rifle rounds, but they're single shots.
Hardwire... You can't go off the Combat Spam window.. that's what the shot would do with no Modifier's to it.. for actual Damage you have to look at the number off the top of it's head.. that takes it's Armor Rating and Resists in to account.
Against High lvl Mob's Armor 2 and 3 rating.. we will always get the short end of the stick. Our Highest AP guns are AP 1, the DX2, Republic, and SR Combat. while a Novice Marksman at rifle 4 can get E11's, Laser Rifle's, Jawa Ions.. that are AP 2. and Rifleman have the T21 with AP 3.. that's what makes the big differences.. it's Armor Rating.. then it's resistances.
So while you can take down lower level Mob's faster.. against the likes of Krayts.. we don't stack up in the ability to damage them.

Feign Death isn't a Pistoleer skill, it's a Smuggler skill. So you're not saying that Pistoleers can solo Krayts, you're saying that Smugglers can solo Krayts.
A "Pistoleer" can also solo Krayts if he is a high level Creature Handler or has an AT-ST. But it's not Pistoleer skills that are enabling him to solo the Krayts ... it's the other stuff.
It's important to keep this stuff straight. Far too often I get people telling me that Pistoleers can do X or Y when they really mean that Pistoleer can pick up ANOTHER profession that does X or Y.

Actually, I used the combat window numbers to estimate who was doing the most damage.....as krayts have AR3 and 60% resist across the board, everyone will have a reduced amount of damage except for AP3 weapons which only one person in our group had. This means that if they are doing less damage than me in the combat window, once you apply modifiers, they are still doing lessdamage than mein floaty damage. I knowthe weapons my group members were usingand the abilities of every weapon in the game.....taking into acount the modifiersin relation to AP bonus.....I was still doing thesecond most damage out of the group......The Rancor was probably doinga lot of damage also, but I did not figure pets into the equation....The TKA's of the group, well lets just say they didn't last to long.....with no armor and one hit from a krayt, I had to use a lot of stims that day......ultimately the pets is what saved the day and Ionly survived because of my tatics inkeeping the krayt from focusing on me......the peacebutton is your friend in groups.....so when you need to move in to heal someone that's close to a krayt dragon......just/peace out of combat, mask scent, walk up close, heal your teammate, move back out of range and then jump back in the fight.....the krayt won't attack you because your not a part of the battle.....
Another thing, I never said that I only used pistols....I don't care what other professions you have your skill points tied up in.....you can't just rely on just your pistols for any high level mob....if you do then of course you will end up with the short end of the stick.....remember.....we are not restricted to just using pistols....it's your choice and if you choose to do so, then realize that you won't be able to take on a lot of higher level mobs. Cover your weaknesses, which for pistoleer is weak damage and inaccuracy from long ranges.....rifleman and carbineer tiers from marksman take care of this.....maybe you don't want to have all the marksman skills....but then just realize you will be limited in what you can do as a pistoleer as every other profession is limited without some sort of dabbling in another profession.....
I also have the ability to use a t21 but I don't use it because I don't like the long firing times and plus you have to be at a long distance to really be effective with it without missing a lotand I couldn't do that as I was also healing my mates.....therefore I would be out of range, they would die quickly and the krayt would come after me.....not very strategic right....plus the one person doing more damage than me was using a t21....you don't need two support people in a group.....know your roles when in a group because everyone complements each other.....otherwise you will be very vulnerable as a group...
Also, the AR/AP system is bugged and not totally working right, there are some flaws in it's formula that haven't been fixed yet......plus there was way too much fire and explosions going on to be able to see the exact number of the "floaties" over the krayts head.
Here's the weapons that I used......switching due to distance and use of specials also.
DX2 to bleed the creature with healthshot1 & 2 stacked (that equaled 800 damage total every 20 seconds).....bleeds totally ignore any Armor thus doing the full amount of damage that shows in the combat window.
Laser carbine to bleed with actionshot1
Laser rifle for mindshot1
and a whole lotofevery special that I have for every weapon.....most notably overchargeshot1 & 2 which with any weapon does insane damage when used at ideal range while kneeling and using /aim....even a moving target will be easy to hit.
so yes in total, total I was doing more damage than anyone excluding the pets and our t21 rifle support......
one note, I exaggerated in my earlier post about only taking a minute to kill the krayt.....it was more like 5 minues and he was already down to about 80% health due to a fight it must have had with either another group or creature......don't matter we still barely took him down......I had about 10 points left in my mind pool....lol
