Leia was a MHC (Master Hot Chick) and a MMCS (Master Mad Chain Strangler). Since she put the rest of her points into politician (and look where that got her) she didn't have the 15 for marksman. CDEF is the best she could get her hands on without being told "You are not certified to use this weapon. Your damagewill beseverly reduced". Why she didn't carry a chain to choke the *#$* out of the stormies I don't know.

surely there was a pre fix Republic blaster on board?
Lol, ya, good call. She would have used her Mom's from Episode I. Maybe there was a horrible accident with a repair tool or something. There was probably a prenerf Nym's Slugthrower nearby, but it clashed with her vulnerable, sexy b1tch image.

The fact is that all Skywalkers are sploiters:
Leia - using uber multiple sliced CDEF.
Luke - gets x-wing cert after just being a gunner on Han's YT once.
Vader - can use force powers and wear armor at the same time.
They should all be banned from the game.
