Thread: Fanshot...is it that good?

I love fanshot. With a good pistol (my DE-10) I can drop one of those random stormie patrols in seconds... although I do have Master and a DE-10 to do it with. But I got there by using fanshot on stormtroopers. I'd imagine you could do the same with rebel troopers as an Imp player. The troopers cluster together when you stay at range and form a nice little target. The fact that it takes 3 times longer to kill a mob is well made up for by the fact that it can kill 5-12 mobs in the time it normally takes to kill 3.

One other little tidbit about fanshot and other AOE attacks.

- If you are targeting a lair you will always hit any mob thats within the cone.

Whether or not you hit is based on your accuracy against the targeted mob, everyone knows this.

How many times have you missed hitting a lair?

Therefore your accuracy jumps to 100% and you never miss doing damage to mobs within the cone.

* This works for spin attacks in melee as well.

Yeah, there's a kind of bug/exploit that causes AOE attacks against lairs to also hit everything else within the area effect of the attack 100%.

I guess it sorta makes sense, I mean if you stand there and shoot a sawwed off shotgun at a house are you ever not gonna hit it?

Guess they figure you should never miss a stationary target.

Seriously, what made them think that a Master Marksman/Pistoleer could hit a "mound of dirt" every time??

I'd like to add something minor. If you have a bunch of Fan Shots queued up and anything being hit by the "fan" dies, the combat queue clears up even if your target is still alive. It's very annoying but has a simple workaround though. Create a macro that fires 3 Fan Shots, pauses for 2 seconds (assuming you're firing at the speed cap), and then calls itself. This way, if any mob other than your target dies from the "fan", at most you'll wait 1-2 seconds before re-queueing up more shots. I find it useful to switch to a new healthy target just before it dies so that the original target dies by the "fan".

When the first mob dies, I just target the next combat target the system selects for me by left-clicking somewhere on the screen (not on an object tho). Then I just smash my F-keys some more. lol

You get really good at that kind of thing when you're a Pikeman, lol

Yeah, I do that too, as I do when I'm using PointBlankArea1 when I'm surrounded--youneed tokeep the least-damaged enemy as your primary target (assuming it's located where you want to be targeting your cone), or else the queue just clears when the target dies, and you won't be firing specials any longer.

What I have a problem with is when I am kiting mobs using Fan Shot--I have a hard time picking out and switching targets when I am running from them.Hitting <Tab>when my primary target dies often selects something thatI don't want to shoot. I end up having to stop running, select another target, and then start running again (taking damage in the meantime when the enemies catch up to me). If anybody has a more efficient way to quickly change targets while kiting, I'd appreciate hearing it. I wish there was a "target closest enemy" command like in JTL.

Yep. If you are running away, it's hard to target a new one. If your target dies and you left-click "off" the corpse, the first mob to damage you will be auto-targeted. Sometimes useful. Sometimes not.

Uthyr, when one target dies, the system automatically switches to another target for you to auto-fire at. This target is represented by the orange-ish box. You can left-click on another target to examine or whatever. You can even use it to set up your queue so that you switch between targets intermittently.

Example:

Double-click on TK-421 Attacks

FanShot TK-421

FanShot TK-421

FanShot TK-421

Left-click on VK-687

PistolMeleeDefense1

HealthShot2

HealthShot2

HealthShot2

Left-click on TK-421

FanShot

FanShot

FanShot

Something like that would set up a queue that attacks both those targets with the indicated attacks. If I'm fighting three Stormtroopers, I might set up my queue by PistolWhipping the first one, and then hit F4 (HS2) ten times, then select (left-click) the second stormie, hit PistolWhip, and then followup with another ten HS2s. By the time I've entered all this in I'm probably only on my second or third combat round, but the system will switch targets after the first set of ten HS2s.

Thanks for the comments, Ren. Yeah, I was aware that they system auto-targets another enemy when your targeted enemy dies, but that effect is too uncontrollable for it to be of much use to me with my playing style. Like Pug said, another target has to actually damage you before it will auto-target (at least I think it does), so you have to let something catch up to you before you can auto-target it. If whatever catches up to you is almost dead already from your FanShots, then you have to keep repeating the process. I prefer to manually select the target that is the least damaged, so I can spam away and watch the weaker targets drop like flies until the only one left is your target, and then I can switch to HealthShot 2 to finish it off.

This isn't really a problem for me most of the time, since I actually rarely kite mobs with FanShot. I prefer using FanShot as a surprise attack against a group of enemies at maximum range (like a faction base or certain kinds oflairs), but more often I prefer to fight targets one at a time and pick them off with my bleeds macro, before they all aggro on me. When fighting ranged attackers, they usually stay put and I can take them all out easily and pick my targets by left-clicking on them to focus the cone effect most efficiently (when I am using FanShot). If they rush and surround me, I switch the PointBlankArea1 and just keep the strongest enemy targeted. I love doing this when surrounded by about 10 Tusken raiders or Squill! Just target the strongest red-dot, spam away, and watch them all drop around me

you just run ahead of them... they'll fall into a nice little line behind you and you can continue to shoot and run... Pistoleers get nice Accuracy While Stand/Moving mods.
