Thread: I vote for speed INCREASE not decrease who is with me?
"The game mechanics are that some weapons/prof are slower than others and that will remain, so what is sacrificed? "
What is sacrificed? Did you say those words? If profs fire slower, then what is sacrificed. Hmmm. Fire slower. Stay with me here... fire slower, what is sacrificed? Well, one thing that's sacrificed isSPEED!!!! Oh wait, change the HAM of every creature in the game and change combat as we know it.... all to make specials look better..... that makes sense. Oh wait, no it doesn't.

Yes I have something against you, I don't like you--you acted condescending in your first response to me, read it.I did ask for anyone's opinion, that was a mistake. I've learned people will put down other's because they're bored enough orfor reasons I don't even know so I won't do that again. True Kieren managed to disagere with me without acting condescending, so I was open to opinion, but not opinion's of asses and I will definately clarify from now on. Role playing games of the past required imagination and that was their drawback. Those still have a place but there is a higher aim now and that is immersion. I am sorry but no you cannot be AS immersed unless it is realistic. Also, no, a role playing game is hardly defined by requiring imagination. You can play a role even easier when the imagination is done for you which is what this game is. Like I said, if you want to do all the imagining, go play something lame. And for all those that are responding, "Ohhhh my goddd change EVERYthing for just THAT, that is preposterous!" Why is it so hard? I mention the word change and you people go into convulsions. Are you all afraid of change or something? You will be stunned in fear when the revamp is done. Finally, hawaii, we're not getting anywhere so don't respond, sorry I brought up thisabsolutely asinineidea.
I actually wasn't condescending. If you read your post you asked if this was adumb idea and I gave my opinion that is a dumb idea. And why would I want a game or some programmers to do the imagining for me? That's one fo the most rediculous things I've ever heard. Imagination is the life-blood of Star Wars, RPG's and every other sci-fi or fantasy story/movie/game in existance. If you are against having your own imagination, then YOU should go play something lame. I like you.

I tried D&D once and it has its place, but my point was that isn't what you're playing now. I've never played horizons but you're not playing that either even though it looks good, which means there is a balance and that balance falls in slightly different places for everyone,I have discovered from this thread. The goal of this gameis to allow one to be immersed in the realism of living in the galaxy, and I can't do that as well as I could,as long as there is no synchronicity between action, sounds, and lasers. If you were to ask the DEVs how important realsim and immersion is to their goal for the game, they would tell you, I think, that this subject is key. I thought everyone played this game to best imagine the life of an artisan, combatant, medic, or entertainer in a galaxy far, far away, but it seems some people simply play it like any other game as simple as the first shooter--to take other player's life points to zero and to hell with wether YOU are doing it or the pixels/code is doing it. Many, many MMORPGs and similar games have done that already though, and I think the DEvs of this game have a higher aim.
I find it very interesting that Hawaii flamed me about syncrhonicity and wrote the post he did in the 'pistoleers don't have a deathblow' thread. Evidently he loves to role play and imagine blasting someone, but he couldn't care less if the laser comes out after he shoots, or if the sound is never heard. Go play Doom or something if you don't care. BTW True Kieran I have nothing against you yet, just him.

I don't want to have to imagine being a smuggler, I want to BE one!
This is the difference between paper RPG's and graphical RPG's. Most people who have played the paper ones don't have that much of a problem imagining things, because all they have are descriptions and rulesand then they make up the rest.
A graphical RPG should have all the tools and images to immerse you in the game, thus letting you become what you imagine.

before any gunfighter panties get in a bunch I wil clarify (= So I am shooting at speed cap and using pistol melee defense which I happen to love because does it get cooler than pistol whipping people? I don't think so. The problem is that I rarely get to see the animation of melee defense because the animation cannot keep up with the speed cap. Not to mention the sound effects and tracers don't match the damage being shot either. So I suggest increasing all prof speed caps equivilently(along with all creatures) so that all sound effects/animations/tracers match the actual speed. Is this seriously dumb or logical? Why not slow the whole thing down?
/agree
I am a graphics nut reason why I have almost bleeding edge cards in my system. GeForce FX 5800 for those who want to know. And I do feel cheated when I see the animations for one special but not the next. I am glad they fixed the dodge animations it helped I know now when I dodge which is nice to know. Plus it cool to see my wookiee dodging that blaster fire or spitted acid.
SWG is one of the most graphic MMORPG (until eq2) that is custimiziable in almost all aspects. Hopefully with the combat rebalanced some of the animations get fixed to be seen more often.
I also can not understand why we are locked in at 25-30fps I know my machine can do graphics (yes in other engines)better then in this game.
