After reading through this thread I have done some experimentation and I have a couple of things to say.

First of all, I can now sucessfully use fanshot. On large mobs, its a great attack. /burstrun helps alot, since I need to get out on a great distance to be sucessful and thats what I lacked before.

But we are not talking about 1000 damage here... we are talking about 2-700, and thats taken with my 217dmg grinding fwg5 used in the squillcave.

I have bought a crate of nutricake now though and hope it will help to keep the burstrun up.

Pushing out 700 damage is not bad you know.

I've been using a DL44, 205 max damage, sliced to 1.2 speed. I go down the Sennex cave and use it on npc mobs, most around 10k HAM more or less. Now, I line up so I can get about 5-10 guys in the cone (mostly in a line behind each other too) and start spamming FanShot. That DL44 is like a minigun, pushing out 2-800 or so damage ever second! Basically, you're looking at 5-10 dead npcs in under 2 minutes, usually under 1 minute. Then you just go round and pick up the nice loot

Using this tactic I've made about 2 million pistol xp in under a week, mastered pistoleer and even done TK meditation IV while I was at it. Even in pvp it's not too bad. I'm not much of a pvper, but unbuffed and unarmoured against a fully armoured and buffed rifleman (not a pvp expert either) I almost got him down.

Pistoleer is one of those combat professions that takes a little working out in order to reap the benefits. So far I'm loving it

After testing alot I can now say the following:

Yes, I now agree that FanShot is the best attack a Pistoleer have. )
I use FanShot almost exclusively to pick down mobs, and use StoppingShot to pick down the remains.

Parwan Nutricake, about one use per lair, speeds up the killing with /3-6 the time it normally takes to kill a lair.

FanShot is most effective in open areas, not in Cave's.

I use it to kill a mokk/janta group in a minute to get pistol xp that is used to boost Combat Prowess. I get about 300-450k pistol xp per hour, much thanks to FanShot alone.

Besides that, I also have an annoying sig that looks like part of the post.

The way I use fan shot is by kiting. Lets take for instance a Janta mission. Most of the time I dont kill the Jantas, I just spam stopping shot at the lair and run. But if I decide to take them out (I get bored sometimes) I will run in a big cirle around the lair and get them to follow me, I select 1 target and then spam fanshot. Since Jantas like to run in a close group, they all get hit, and then i pick off the stragglers with an attack that targets their weakest pool, either eyeshot or torso shot. Occasianally I will use stopping shot and target 1 janta at a time instead of them all, just to mix it up a little.
