Thread: Pistoleer Strategies: Soloing Post CU
I as well was very discouraged about the CU when it first came out. My template is Master Pistoleer, 4/0/4/4 Ranger (no damn tents for me), and novice medic. I converted my armor into battle armor and went out hunting with my previously uber DE-10....and promptly got my behind kicked.
Little backround into my normal hunting routines. I usually fight creatures for meat resources needed by my Doc to make meds (Doc is now respec'd to BE). I don't do any PvP, however I do fight as an ImpCombatant once in a while to break up the monotony.
My first mistake was not researching my armor stats and determining exactly what they mean. I assumed that a set of 80% kinetic, 75% energy, 68% base composite armor would convert into similar bad arse battle armor. WHOOPS! After several disappointing attempts to solo missions (and replacing several mice after throwing them across the room), I took the time to look up the equivalent armor stats. There is a very nice armor guide stickied in the AS section that clue'd me in. My once killer armor (for what I normally fight) was now only 15% resists to everything. No wonder blue things were kicking my behind!
Once I realized that things crafted BEFORE the CU have seriously sucky stats when converted AFTER the CU, I also took a look at my once very nice Krayt DE-10. Granted it had been speed sliced, it still had more damage on it than any otherpistol I had ever used in the game previously prior to the CU. Once again, my lack of research came back and bit me. Much to my suprise, the base damage of my once nice DE-10 was only 232 dps! I talked with my guild WS and he had just made a run of FWG5's that were base 309! I couldn't believe it!I thought that DE-10's were supposed to be already combat balanced, and now I find that FGW5's (a weapon that previous to the CU a non-Pistoleer could use) now was able to do 77 dps more than my Krayt DE-10! Needless to say my guild WS was still at his vendor putting stuff up for sale when I ran in and bought a couple.
At this point I'm still looking for better battle armor. I'm not going out there with the junk I currently have, but I feel more confident that I will be able to more effectively solo the stuff I need once I find a decent set of armor. Moral of the story....RESEARCH before you critically damage your walls and floors from zinging mice across the room.
