Thread: Fan Shot Worse Than Stopping?
Jaegen,
Actually, I was asking from a PvE perspective, because every little bit helps in getting xp. If stacking Wound shot 1, Wound shot 2, Bleeding shot, and Torso shot results in a Baz Nitch dying faster than doing the same thing but alternating in Stopping shot or Fan shot, then I think anyone pursuing the path I am currently pursuing would benefit more from acquiring Torso shot before going after Fan shot. This was the reason I asked about its effects.
In the end, I think most would agree that regardless of its effects, the added benefit of Pistol Speed and Pistol Accuracy makes it a lopsided choice, but nonetheless I was still wondering if there was an added benefit ![]()

Fanshot...
Last night a NPC hit me with fanshot for 1725 dmg! He was 50 meters away and I was in full composite. One shot and I was laying on my back like Larry from Mr Mom..."wow, one puch".
Seems like this shot can be one tough cookie.

Hawlar,
Yes, I have incountered similar experience with an npc... it seems like only npc's can hit 1k with the fan shot, because I surely can't. After I was hit like that once, I anticipated for so long to get that shot... and it turned out pretty weak
The guns I was using were fwg5's with max damages of 140 and 177... I guess he must have a better gun.
I have tested torso shot quite a bit, and i have to say I am very jealous
I am a master pistoleer, my friend is a bounty hunter with a maxed pistol line, thats it. He showed me the damage that torso shot puts out and it is indeed Body Shot 3 + fire DOT + wounds.
He hit me with one torso shot, and gave me over 200 wounds to my health. Every time the fire DOT hit me, it tacked on about 50 more wounds. This ability basicly allows a bounty hunter to eliminate people from PVP for the next 15-30 min or so with only one or two shots. I dont see it used often now, but once PVP starts heating up a bit more, im sure it will be commonly used.

Wow, I posted something useful finally, check out the FAQ.
You can see that fan shot does far more damage over time than stopping shot (but you can take into account that both shots fire at the same time...making stopping better if you are firing a singel shot.
The top row is DAMAGE PER ACTION POINT. So yes, stopping shot is "slightly" more efficient on action cost per damage.
before can decide whats better fanshot or stopping we need a few other questions answered to begin.
first, how is wpn speed and the pistolspeed skill work? most postsi haveseen seem to say that there is a min wpn speed of 1.0. and wpn speed skill wont reduce your speed any lower than this. is this true?
second , how is the wpn speed skill effecting specials? does it also lower the modified speed? my guess is yes
third, with sufficient wpn speed andpistol speed skill then both Fanshot and Stopping shot will fire once every 1.0. making stopping shot vastly superior.
fourth, my half ass observation of the skills compared, show they fire at same rate for me.which is 1.0,i have a 129 pistol speed(master pistol&bh4pistol) and a 1.6 fwg.this is completely just observation guesswork.
anyone able to actually confirm or deny any of this ? any eggheads actually run a parser yet? or anyone actually know how the pistol speed skill interacts with wpn speed and specs.
Erm, I'd read all the replies, but I have to run out ... but I did want to contribute this:
With a fast gun, and appropriate pistol speed modifiers, I believe Stopping Shot is more damaging over time.
I just hit Master Pistoleer, and I have Bounty Pistol III ... that gives me 119 pistol speed, and with a 1.9 speed FWG5, I rip out stopping shots just as fast as I unload Fan Shots. The action costs might be better on fanshot, but I believe the speed cap at higher levels makes it less attractive than Stopping Shot.
Just me 2 creds.
Yes, if you have a high enough pistol speed you may be better off using "the highest damage weapon" and the "highest damage per shot" special. Which seems silly, but oh well, that's they way it currently is.
Ok I have chosen to go the bh/pistoleer route.
I have all 4 boxes of pistol on bh line.
I have one box left on marksman and one left on specials. I have not done any of the tactics line yet.
Here is a little informal test I did tonight. It was a spur of the moment idea to check out.
Out of 10 shots damage from torso shot was the same as bodyshot2 more or less I would say within about +-10 points.
I was killing mawgax'es on yarvin 4. My general opening is fanshot,eyeshot,bleed2(can't recall the name atm),torso shot. I then just use normal shots on the mawgax to bring it down. From a kneeling position this allows me to regen faster and get the ham back I burned doing the above.
Now I hunt with a group usally. ( Not really sure why but that is another story). Any way if I use more then above I gimp the xp for everyone in my group. Now the above takes about 1/4 give or take of my ham bar.
Now for giggles I decided to see whateyeshot would do. So instead of the above I did 8 shots of eyeshot which equaled about the same amount of ham as the above. The mob is dead all the xp is mine and I killed it faster then the whole group did when we all where just hitting on the health bar. I did this 3 times to make sure of what I was saying.
By the third mob most my group was like man something is wrong I am getting no ch xp. My gun must be broke I only got 80xp for that ect.....( needless to say I was laughing my butt off.) I then explained what I did and why and they where ok withit. ( ie I didn't get my butt kicked.)
Now with the above informal test I would like to point out a few things. First off the mind bar on these mobs is their largest bar. Second we did have two rifleman but they where not styling having learned that in a mostly ch/pistol-user/brawler group they get no xp if they style. Third I have been fighting these mobs for a few days now and they shouldn't go down that easy. Fourth the scatter I was using is acually a low quality one atm suffering from lack of good materials on my server. And it was even speed sliced I have one that is damage sliced at 16% but otherwise identical to each other.
So in all honesty for cost to damage in the bh line if you don't care about the points added to acc or speed stop at the first box with eyeshot or if you like the numbers but want to save points you can stop at the third level where they get the big +20 in acc and speed. If you do either of the above you can keep enough points out to be master pistol/novice bh/novice medic/novice ch/novice ranger and go a few boxes up on one of them. And end up with a much stronger template as a result.
I hope to finish out my master in the next day or so. So if you want tests run I think I can find a dummy to let me shoot them. Tell me what you want run and how you want it sampled ect.. And I will attempt to get them tested. Again wait till I get master. But I will help run some tests if you need them.
