the tusken king's rifle is still kinetic...... and some early-day tusken rifles were kinetic, but that was changed very shortly
the striker still remains the only accessable kinetic-damage ranged weapon, and with a little work, you can find yourself a pretty nice one (gorax bone shards, spider fangs, looted barrels, etc.)
i've got a few that are pretty fast (1.6 speed) and one that's over 200 dmg- plus they look cool with scopes on them

quite honestly i'd rather have an upgrade system. You have swappable parts that give different bonuses depending on what you have.
get a blaster focal lense that is 10% more efficient and you have a longer range with less accuracy (since the focal point is now smaller).
i understand our powerups are about the same. but honestly i'd reather have a semi permanent swapping capablility. More like KOTOR (since i'm lacking a better example).
you add in certain parts to gain more capabilities but are disadvantaged on a different thing.
Better damage, but slower firing rate.
Faster firing rate, less accuracy and damage
maybe a +10 against specific types of critters....etc....
but then they'd have to change the way our armor and effectiveness system works.
i'd like to have a pistol i'd be proud to call "Custom".

Blasters just don't use battery packs, they have a small canister of spin-sealed tibanna (usually) gas, that the power back ignites to make the energy reaction that creates the blaster bolt.

As for a consumeable for the melee weapons, well, what do most of them (save for the stun baton and a couple polearms) have in common? A BLADE! So how about after a while of use thier blades get dull and do greatly reduced damage unless they get some sort of sharpening device or a replacement blade. The stun baton could use energy packs as well, while the polearms (wood and reinforced staff) well, they already stink.
