don't forget weapon specific bonusses BW....like pistol defence and pistol accuracy.....the new system is more flexible when it comes to eg. using pistol specials on rifles, but if you chose that route you're likely to end up with less acc and defense (well that's the impression I'm getting after my 1 week of post-curb play)

didnt forget Weapon Specific Bonus Sli, its a lot better to use a pistol when you are a master Pistoleer but the truth is that you can still use rifles very well

We also have the most damaging Kinetic weapon by far, we're fastest, and we have the lowest SAC and great moves when combined with Rifleman.

That's without going into our devastating ability to dominate in PvE. Honestly, Pistoleer is THE ranged prof to be post-CU, IMNSHO.

ok... most damaging kinetic weapon? I didnt know that... my fwg5 deals quite a punch at 700max dmg... (i still havent found a decent post cu weapon) and I heard that these cap at 960... so Im assuming that that would be the most dmg dealing kinetic weapon... and rifles are at?

I think before there was a clear distinction between the three weapon types, from range to speed and dmg. I never really minded not being able to deal massive amounts of dmg for as long as I could deal it more often (although I was jealous of the armor piercing values)

We are fastest you say? are you sure? I might be mistaken but my extremely fast pre cu fwg5 is now barely slightly fastest than an advanced laser rifle... and there isnt much different in the dmg...

Man.. this is what is depressing me... maybe i havent got enough post cu info but I really am not seeing a difference between a pistol and a rifle...

SAC... ok.. this might be true.. Ive heard sacs as low as 65 on pistols... but I dont really think they are much higher on rifles... though this SAC seems to be the main characteristic of a weapon now... I deal a lot of dmg with Advanced Crit but after a few shots (interleaved with Quickdraw) I ran out of action... and this means Im in dire straights if I get kd... so SAC would be very important....

Pistoleers now rule PvE?... i dont... maybe im not doing things right. I tried shooting a pve critter with root shot, dealing dmg and then kd when the root expires so I can try and maintain range... didnt quite work... The cooldown timer on root is too large for the 20 secs it keeps the creature rooted... After that the creature will eventually come into range. this only works if the creature is slower than you... I suppose a snare after a root would be much better... Do pistoleers have a snare?

NOW... if you talking about mixing Elite combat professions however... a Master Pistoleer/Master Rifleman... that would be packing a wallop! the range of Rifles mixed with all teh specials in Pistols and vice versa! That is probably way cool.

So.. can anyone give me pointers... i feel my pistoleer inclination start to dwindle... I love pistoleers.. but i really cant seem to enjoy it lately.

You need to spend a bit more time on your Pistoleer.

I'm sure all of us got totally "pwned" when the CU first went live and we tried to take on a cl80 mob. I know I did, after a few weeks you get to learn how to use your template and start killing harder and harder things.

A lot depends on what you chose to go with Master Pistoleer.

With Master Pistoleer and Master Combat Medic, I can solo Necrosis, cl 500 Jedi Sentinels, cl93 Ancient Krayts, cl92 SBD's etc etc.

It's taken me a lot of practice to get the most out of my template. For a long time I felt like you do, that my template was weak and I was a bit downhearted, but the more you practice, the better you get.

but is it because of pistoleer or because of Combat Medic...

I increase my combat power a lot by adding medic to my template... with bio eng clothing to give me +25 healing efficiency I can now heal 900 every six seconds with bacta shot plus I have bacta toss... I hardly use stims but I still have them on my toolbar just in case.

This makes me a real mean guy on the field and if i add the CM debuffs Im sure i can handle a lot too... but I just dont really feel confortable with pistols! (pistoleer is fine).

I really really think that there isnt much a diference between a rifle and a pistol anymore besides range. Or is it just my pre cu rifles that are very good?

Ill try and post my weapons this evening if im sober.. eh eh eh pub night tonight!! Cider and Black here I go!

Both, they go very well together. Electrolyte drain lets you kite melee mobs, it's such a weak snare (long duration though) that the low movement hinderance on Pistols works well, where running with a Rifle would be a lot harder.

For ranged mobs you can Thyroid/Shock/Intimidate, that about halves thier damage output, then you can Dive Shot and tank, using rollshot to heal and then dive again.

You really do need a great pistol to get the best out of Pistoleer though, get yourself a really good FW FWG5.

I sense a secret of the force here...

Ive been using a combo of Advanced Critical shot and Quickdraw to constantly deal huge amounts of dmg... this is coupled with intimidate, torso shot, blind and confusion shot (??? one of them).

When my action drops... quite often, i just use ranged shot while I recover.

Ive been wondering if I was using a good attack combo... why the dive shot? and what do you mean with dive shot and tank? you mean a droid/pet to tank for you?

Forgot to thank you for your help! THANKS!!!

That's what I do, but with Body Shot instead of Adv Crit.

Against ranged mobs, kneeling or prone makes you take less damage, so you debuff their attack then go prone and they do very little damage while you blast away.

Ok, I can see a LOT that you're doing wrong.

ok... most damaging kinetic weapon? I didnt know that... my fwg5 deals quite a punch at 700max dmg... (i still havent found a decent post cu weapon) and I heard that these cap at 960... so Im assuming that that would be the most dmg dealing kinetic weapon... and rifles are at?

700 max is not "quite a punch", that's actually really low for a Master of any profession to be doing. You must be thinking of pre-CU standards. A decent Featherweight FWG5 should be in the 350-930 damage at least. The best kinetic carbines and rifles max out in the 800s.

We are fastest you say? are you sure? I might be mistaken but my extremely fast pre cu fwg5 is now barely slightly fastest than an advanced laser rifle... and there isnt much different in the dmg...

Again, that gun is not good. As a Master Pistoleer your modified speed should be around 1.3 on an average pistol, preferably lower. I don't know what yours actually is, but if it's about the same as a rifle, you've got a poor weapon.

Yeah, you've got a bad weapon, and it sounds like you're relying too much on roots. I don't even use root except in very specific circumstances. Rotate damage shots, lay down intimidate and blind if you've got BH, and use Duelist Stance. You're fast, and you can deal damage quick. If you had a better SAC, you'd never run out of action when fighting, unlike the other ranged professions in many circumstances. Use Roots only when needed to gain some ground, otherwise you gotta tank. Luckily, with a good set of armor and BH mods, you are a tank. Only TKA/Docs are better tanks than MBH/MP/CM 4000 templates (not counting Jedi, of course).

NOW... if you talking about mixing Elite combat professions however... a Master Pistoleer/Master Rifleman... that would be packing a wallop! the range of Rifles mixed with all teh specials in Pistols and vice versa! That is probably way cool.

Post-CU it's all about mixing professions. There's no such thing as a single proffession style, it's all about templates. No profession is complete on its own anymore, at least not in combat. You've gotta think in terms of combinations, so it's a more nuanced style than pre-CU. Being a "pistoleer" or a "carbineer" doesn't mean the same thing it did in the old style, you're now much more individual, you just happen to have mastery in certain trees.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

so... in the end... pistols and rifles and carbines only differ in the range and sac... compared to time and dmg and AP from PreCU.

Although you are right, I do need new weapons, but I am handling myself well against most enemies thanks to MBH and now a little bit of medic... thinking of going CM just for the heals as well.

I guess ill try and get a new featheweight soon.

In modified speed they might be lower, but I'm talking about base speed. I don't know the caps, but I do know that espescially rifles are noticibly slower than pistols on basic shots. Carbines are much closer in speed, but have a very different spread of specials, so you have to decide what you prefer.

Another aspect of speed is how fast you move with the weapon out. Pistoleers are definately the fastest moving on their feet with their weapons drawn, and that is very important when kiting. We have less range to work with, but we are far better at moving around in that range then the other ranged proffessions.

Hope that helps!
