Thread: Why won't the nest die?

OK I've been playing for a little while (4 months or so. Mastered TK) and I recently started a new character who's going to be a Pistoloeer Smuggler. At this point I'm at 0,1,1,0 Pistoleer. And after checking the forums, the most consistant advice to grindwas.... Get buffed, go to Dant and do quenker missions. Sounds good.

So I get my mission, go the quenker lair, and start mowing through them pretty well with a Tangle pistol. Now the lair won't go down. I switch between a DX2, Tangle, Republic blaster, Striker, and a FWG. Some seem to have no effect what so ever. Others (the DX2 seemed the best) take forwever. I timed one nest at 8min and 20 seconds. And that's after I cleared the animals. The whole mission took 12 minutes.... because they kept heeling the nest of course.

I read about people going through nests in 4 minutes before they moved on the the nest mission. Making 700k pistol points in one Buff session. Am I missing something. wrong weapon... specials... All I know is that after a 3 hour session, I had enough points for 1 skill box.... at a low level. At this rate I'll have Pistoleer in about 3 months.

It has been my experince that stun dmg weapons, i.e. stun batons, geos, tangle pistols do not hurt the lair. It also seems to sometimes bug the lair to where it will not take any damage at all (this could have just happened to me). I know that i can target the lair with a baton and /spin and target it with a tangle and /fanshot both do no damage to the lair itself while taking out the creatures aroud it.

What special were you using if any? I think there are also some specials that have no affect as well, like state effect shots and bleeds, but i could be remembering wrong

I triedHealth Shot 2, Body Shot 2, and point blank1 and point blank area 1.

Health shot and Body shot would give a damage icon of about 200 to 500 every 7 seconds or so. When I went to point blank... or nothing (just letting the character attack without any commands) I'd get about 100 to 200 points of damage every second.

On a 65k nest, you can imagine that that would take a while.

Thanks for following this up. If anything. I'm curious as to what weapon and specials other people use and how long it takes them.

Well as was said, Stun weapons do no damage to lairs. Heat weapons seem to do limited damage (your FWG5) and energy and acid seem to work normally (your DX2 and Republic) plus the AP1 weapons will do more damage as well.

Another thing that needs to be noted, location specific attacks (body shot, health shot, eye shot, and their counterparts for carbine and rifle) do no damage to a lair, not sure why, but they don't if you queue them up you will see the shots fired, but no damage will occur until after the last shot which is just a normal hit on the lair. This is rather annoying as until you acheive double tap and then stopping shot, your best damage shots are location specific.

Until I got double tap, I just used pistol melee defense on the lairs as apparently my slapping the lair with a pistol is more effective than shooting it

Yeah, I figured out pretty quickly that Stun weapon did nothing to the nest. But that would be interesting, that once you hit the nest with it thatthere is possibly a bug that messing any other types of damageup.

I was consitantly using a Republic blaster or a DX2 to take down the nest. But like I said... took forever.

Im pretty sure that PMD lowers the condition on your weapon pretty fast, so something to think about. Also when you are low in pistols as far as speed goes, the lairs do take a long time to finish just based on the shots/second.

BTW im not sure if its been fixed in recent patches but I always used disarming shots on the lairs. It never worked as intended (the shot description)but it did however do x2 damage to lairs but like I said Im not sure if its been fixed or not.

If it hasn't give that a shot if you that skill.

One other thing, if your sig is still accurate i'd also suggest switching to TK to finish the lairs. You will get some pistol xp from tapping the lair and you will finish up the mission in no time to head to the next one. Usually the lair is worth about the same as 1 crature kill so its not worth 6 minutes for 5k xp.

I made it up to Double tap last night. Used that with a DX2, and it worked great. Still took a while, but I was getting solid progress on the nest.

Thanks

When I attack Quenker lairs (or any lairs, for that matter), I always switch to my Republic blaster to finish off the lair after thedefenders are wiped out. I do this mainly because my Republic blasters are a lot more expendible than my other pistols (I go through those things as if you buy them in 6-packs). I don't bother using any specials on the lair--I just do a standard attack and let it run for a few minutes while I go have a beer or something. I never actually timed how long it takes to destroy the unoccupied lair, but 8 minutes seems awfully long to me.

When I was doing quenkers I used a speed sliced DX2 with speed pup, targetted the lair and ran a pointblankarea looping macro. It hit an average 250-300 pts, roughly at the speed cap, and took out all the quenkers with no probs at all. Most of the time by the time the last quenker died I'd only have 20% of the lair left to knock out, if not I'd switch to TK to save time.

At pistoleer 0110, it would take a while. A good slice/pup can go to about 1.3 speed for the DX2's I've tried so far. Rack up some combat xp and you'll be going through quenkers a lot faster pretty soon.

Some of those nests get ridiculous. We should get a bomb or something to blow it up after all the enemies are gone. I also don't see how shooting at a rock (or a flag, or some debris, etc.) is giving experience. Maybe I missed the part where shooting stationary lifeless objects that you're right next to is beneficial to your skills. It's all pretty confusing to me.

Quenkers used to take me forever, just like your describing. Just make sure you kill a quenker spawn as soon as you see it so it doesn't have time to heal the nest. For nests, I just spam stopping shot at them now. With a damage sliced Dx2, I do about 1000-1300 damage per hit. It's still slow, but a lot faster than it used to be.
