Thread: I'm a really BAD pistoleer :)

Ok, I admit it. I suck at pistoleer. I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe it's a mindset, or maybe I'm just a lousy player . Anyway, I am a MCH and a Novice TKA. I never have any problems with TKA unarmed xp. But man, I am just getting owned with pistols. Killing Gurks on Lok is great xp, but they keep spawing so fast they overrun my poor grauls and then eat me for lunch. That's going to get even worse now that the grauls have been nerfed. I've got 67% Ubese, some nice pistols, and I feel like I'm one heartbeat away from being a smear on the landscape. Should I be doing something else, like hurtons? Should I be thinking more broadly about skill use? Normally I send a pet to engage, pull them back to my location to try and prevent a massive gang bang, bleed everyone who comes with him, and then proceed to either shoot normally or use BS2 if I have the action buffs to spam it.

i've noticed that pistoleer REALLY REALLY sucks untill you get either stopping shot or fan shot... pistol melee defense 1 helps (melee KD) but besides that you have to get high up in the technique lines to get any good specials.

so def go up techniques line first then work on others... me I'm also a smuggler so I'm getting dirty fighting first, low blow, panic shot, and last ditch are all amazing specials for pistol..

but yeah pistoleers really really suck untill you get the top end specials

You shouldn't be having this much trouble, although you're right that unarmed XP is easier to get.

First of all, take off the Ubese. I use it for unarmed too, but the idea with pistol is to kill the enemy BEFORE he gets to you. If you're fully buffed you can leave the Ubese on.

It sounds like your biggest problem is that you are pulling the mobs into melee range by calling your pet to come close to you. Why are you doing that?

The key to levelling up, unless you have a good pet and an AOE shot like FanShot, is being able to isolate one mob from the rest of the herd. The easiest way is to find non-BAF mobs (like Piket Longhorn Females) but there are many other ways as well. If you don't learn how to isolate mobs, levelling is really tough unless you can take down an entire group at once with an AOE attack.

Not really pulling them to melee range, just puling them away from the nests so that any respawn won't also join in. I have started to take the Ubese off. It probably is just an adjustment in how I do things. I'm getting frustrated with it . But I will persevere! If only because the little glowing pyramid told me to....

First Hurrtons are a better solo XP grind for pistols than Gurks. Gurks have an AR=1 and some decent resists, so they take a little longer to kill which means that they seem to spawn from the lair more frequently. I never wear armor on hunts, it really cuts into my ability to spam specials. My friends call me crazy, but I'm not the one who ends up on their back or in the cloning center often. Then again the smuggler specials have saved my bacon more than once.

As a MCH, I do this too. I call it "luring" and it's a great way to pull back far enough so that things don't spawn on you or too many get aggroed.

Here are a couple of tips that may help you.

1. When you sic your pets, you yourself should run backwards til you're about 100m away from your target. THEN call your pet back to you. When itcomes within40m from you, re-sic it.This will put you and your pet (and any mobs you lured with you) about 60m away from the nest, where the rest of the nesters are (and any spawns would be around there too). This is around the max aggro range, so they will probably ignore YOU, still standing 100m away from the nest. This is where you start shooting, from 40m away from your pet and the mob(s).

2. If you're dealing with highly aggro, social creatures, try the semi-lure tactic. At about 65m from the nearest creature (not the nest), sic your pet. BUT dont' let it actually get to the creature, just call it back. Do this several times, and 90% of the time only that creature will come investagate what is sending it into combat so often, without bringing the rest of its kind with them.

Hope this helps!

Not sure if it's what you're doing, but make sure you're not sending your pet in to attack the lair. That will cause a massive spawn, and the creatures will be all over you like flies on... well you get the picture.

My suggestion is Seething Bol Crusher missions on Dantooine. I used these to finish off all of my level 4 boxes of Pistoleer, and I actually wish I had found it sooner. I could have mastered Pistoleer a week earlier if I had. These creatures have vulnerability to heat, so you can take them out fairly quickly with your FWG5. They also only spawn 3 at a time, so you don't have to worry about a massive spawn quickly overrunning you. Just stand at about 60 meters or so, then send in your pet to attack the one closest to you. The other two will aggro on your pet, and you will be left alone. Place bleeds on all 3 of them, then start firing away with your most powerful attack (probably Body Shot 2), picking them off one at a time. When done, call your pet back to you, heal it up, hit the lair a couple of times to cause the spawn, and send in your pet again. You'll be on your way to Master Pistoleer in no time.

One point, when doing missions such as this I don't recommend using Fan Shot. The reason is that you will often hit the lair when you don't intend to, which can cause a spawn, in which case the new creatures will aggro on you. My suggestion is to take the creatures down one at a time. Honestly, with their vulnerability to heat, the Seething Bol Crushers won't last long against your FWG5 anyway, so it won't take you too much longer to kill them one at a time.

In line with Wild_Bill's suggestion - what kind of gun are you using? As Wild notes, Gurks have AR1 and they are pretty well protected from heat, so your fwg5 is not going to work too well. Your republic blaster might work a little better, but gurksare, aswith a lot of creatures on Lok, vulnerable to acid, so get yourself a good dx2 and see if that helps.

Was having a hard time getting Seething Bol missions last night. What level are they?

easier way to lure creatures

1. mask scent
2. bleed 1,2 or healthshot whatever they are called
3. step back and let them run at your pets
4. bonus step - when within range (10 m or less) use melee defense 1, do a couple fan shots and then just continue shooting until dead

oh yeah i forgot to mention, stay like 65 m away from the lair
and you can subsitute fanshot for whatever powerful shot you have at that time, except for stopping shot as it will make the creature stand right up

Ok before the patch this is what I did:

- No buffs, no armor

- Using a Krayt FWG5 with a stack of Max/Min powerups - Speed sliced, since I got that instead of damage With stats of about 90-360 1.0 Speed (give or take a little)

- Graul Mauler (or anything with high kinetics)

- Medic skills for StimB's and Pet Stims for pets

From Novice Pistoleer

Walk around Northern Naboo (from theed to kaadara area) and look for Bolle Bols...

Send in my pet and Body Shot 2 them to death....

I did this until I got Body Shot 3, after which with a fast pistol (1.0 speed) you can do much more damage then BS2.

I did this until mainly master, but now I am leveling the Dirty Fighting Line and have been doing the same with Bolle Bols except I have dropped Medic (for Smuggler) and am spamming Fan Shot like mad.

If you don't have the points for medic you will need to get buffed since your action drops like a rock.

I have just the Dirty Fighting IV line to go, and if I am buffed I don't need a huge pet anymore since I can kill Bols with Fan Shot quicker then 1 at a time with BS 3.

Again this is taking into consideration a lot of things listed up on top but this is what I did

I don't recall specifically what level they are, but they're higher level. Payout is like 13k per mission, so I'm thinking somewhere around level 50 or so. With your grauls you should be able to get them. I was able to just by being grouped with another player and a rock beetle.
