Thread: Suppression Fire Nerf?

I read somewhere on this forum that there will be added a 30 second delay mod for supression fire. Is this true? I didn't see anything on the test center page. i am really curious about where some folks get thier information. Not doubting that it is true, I just never see anything on the test page.


anyways... I would be very upset if supression fire is nerfed that badly, it is the one thing that makes me good at PvE. I barely survive my faction missions as it is with two guys firing at me, and one guy on the ground... if there is a thirty second delay mod, these missions will be literally impossible to do alone. Pistol whip is cool as hell, but the HAM costs are too high to do repeatedly.


If this nerf is coming because of brawler vs marksman complaints in the PvP world, can you please just reduce the 'chance to hit in PvP' with this shot? All damage was reduced by 75% in PvP ... this seems like a reasonable compromise.


anyone have thoughts or updates on that rumor/news? thanks

From what I read, its true. I agree completely, my pvE is messed. But then again, maybe I wasn't supposed to be able to solo any creature in the galaxy.

Makes me sad because I was just starting to get used to it. Now I have to spend another week learning new tactics.

doh!!!! I wonder if keeping ranged weapon support IV is worth it then. 5 points better spent elsewhere?

I can still see it being useful... just I can't see how yet. I'll figure something out and post it. Right now my plan for pvp is


suppressing fire->pistolwhip -> bleed -> bleed -> burst run away -> wait 30 seconds -> come back and repeat.


As far as animals go, I will probably revert back to


bleed->bleed-> warningshot -> peace


and keep pistol whip and suppressing fire for when things get too hot.

fighting melee players used to just be a lot of suppressing fire, but now I think its going to involve a lot of running around.

I been using Supp fire 1 a lot recently and as of the patch monday it has been changed. Resist is a lot stronger and duration is shorter. ( see kimmy.. i told ya to Shhhhh)

Fairs fair though. It was too strong. Just means we will have to be more cautious about what actions we pump into the output attack pipeline. Still a very usefull action to use and well worth reaching the top of the marksman tree for. IMO it is the best action in the whole marksman tree except for overcharge shot.

Yeah, I was just about to go ahead and get it now that I'm doing more faction destroy missions... (and hearing how useful it is now that they fixed it) might just skip it and save the combat XP for the pistol line.


Man, I swear that Nerfs are triggered by my skill tree, everytime I'm about to get something cool...


I really dislike when they mess up the fun of PvE for PvP. I mean look, I'm gonna kill the NPC's I choose to fight (cause I don't bite off more than I can chew). It doesn't hurt THEIR feelings how I do it!

Correct! They are nerfing it to uselessness again..gotta love it...


Suggestion for those hunting critters- pick up scout..use traps...at least until they nerf them too...you can kill nearly any animal with the snare/root traps...

Star, are you saying that the nerf has already taken place? I seemed to be using Suppression fire last night (monday night)fairly effectively. If the nerf has already taken place, then i am content with remaining usefulness of the shot.

I bet all the BH and rifleman were screaming to nerf it from us....................lil do they know its a marksman skill they could use also.


Would it be better to drop Suppression Fire now and get Pistol Melee Defense 1?

It's not useless post nerf. It's still really really powerfull. You just got to monitor it more.

Before you could pretty much hit suppression fire once and not even bother checking if the mob was still coming for you as you already knew it was stopped in its tracks. Now you have to check. If you ever played everquest, its like hitting a low level root without the success/failure message.

Don't do without this one..

Is the timer 30 secs per attempt or 30 secs per successful hit? That's a huge difference.
