Thread: Why Did I master Pistoleer?

Just wondering, but Why did I master pistoleer if there is no incentive to do andI can just as easily master rifleman and get a gun that does about 3x the dmg and eats through PSG's like candy?
Am I holding on to something bigger? Dual Wield? Medium AP weapons? Why am I doing this...
(Seriously...I need help, im not being sarcastic. These riflemen+melee templates are handing my ass to me)

More sarcastic answer:
Umm... *reaches* ... An additional +25 dodge and some Pistol speed and some Accuracy that doesn't compare to that of any other mainstream profession?
For an attack that sounds sexy but is busted?
For an attack that's completely broken?
For the title?

I don't think anything short-term is going to make you want to keep it. But you can always hold out.

I've been asking myself the same thing since I mastered it about 2 days ago...the title is actually the best thing I've come up with. As a Master Smuggler, I decided to get Pistoleer as well. Now I've decided to start working on the triple master combo with TKM, andat TKA 0-0-1-2 I can defeat mobs as quickly as with a pistol (unless its something with high kinetic resists that you would use an acid pistol for etc.) Anyhow, its just disappointing to see how much more damage another class do with each attack. I still like the idea of being a Pistoleer, especially with my smuggler....just disappointed with how long it takes to kill things even at the master level. Guess we're allsupposed to dabble in BH to get speed mods that are comparable to other profs...

Good question, one that I wishI had a good answer for, I don't think this is a good answer but here goes.
The SWG devlopers have done well in instilling the idea into everyone that you have to be a master of your chosen professions to be viable, in addition the faster you master your professions the better you are, as mastering the most professions in the least time gives a great a reward, a character who doesn't belong in the game...
Basically, you took up pistoleer for your own reasons and mastered it because the devs want everyone to be a master of something whether it be combat (melee or rifleman) crafting, healing or in your case, running away.
I'll tell you what I've told many pistoleers in the past when they say things like this, I hope you're listening because this will restore your perspective plenty: "At least you're not a carbineer" I bet you feel better already. Those poor bastards are probably worse off than us with no viable PvP weapons and way less speed.

well I congratulate you!! Let me start with that, I mastered about a week ago and I will tell you what makes it worth it.
DE-10.
My de-10 powers up to 579 that is comparable to a t-21 minus the ap. People are having a misconception though, it is not that good in pvp unless it has very high wound, mine is wound 47.3% and I can run some nasty burns on people.(Note I have bouny pistols 4) Torsoe shot ticks for around 250 i believe and stack on the bleed from hs2 that is another 90. Also with this equipped spamming hs2 it deliveres 3 wounds per hit, all on health. This Racks up the wounds on a guy.
Now when fighting jedi they will fight for 10-15 minutes sometimes without dieing, healing every once in a while, owning all the people fighting them, these burns and wounds add up and after a while his health ham is much less.
Team this with a tera kasi or 2 spamming hit 3 and kd he will die AND NOT BY MIND!!
Please do not give up on pistoleer! Suck it up and improvise to make the odds even out!

Eh with my pistols template I regularly out damage master swordsmen, TKM, riflemen etc in the geo lab when they get frisky and try to KS the spawns. Granted I have a nice krayted and 31% damage sliced scatter mixed with last ditch firing at the cap. But still, those seemingly GOD classes are only as good as the people playing them a lot of the time. However it's the jedi who come in and AE kill everything you're fighting and then laugh at you that piss me off. Grrr. But that's a whole other thread.

You do have to admit, though, Carbineer specials do (for the most part) work. They got some attention, even. And if they do KD/Dizzy you they will hammer you. Not to mention though they're somewhat slower their weapons are generally heavier than ours.

Dont be a whinny baby....do you have a de10?,,,,if you do,,,how can you **edit** about master pistoleer. Its the best gun in the game. I have a friend you has a 670mx without powerup. Is a t21 better than that?,,given the fact that you can be at close range and shoot at the speed cap..i dont think so. If your bitching because of pvp and you get killed alot,,,buy some attachments. I am master pistoleer/bh 0040 and smuggler 0040,,,with this combo i eat rifleman for breakfast. I last ditch them to death. For me,,,this is the best pvp combo in the game...Although it helps to have 20mill in attachments in a 80percent base stun armor...lol.
spend some money and stop complaining.

This sounds a little hot, almost a flaming. But that's a different matter, I'm here to point out the flaws in your statements.
The guy said he's master pistoleer, not a 240+ skill points template made to use every pistol and every special at the cap, if he had last ditch and BH pistols 4 he'd probably not have posted this thread.
DE-10, best gun in the game? funny. High damage AP1 energy pistol with ungodly speed, useless for PvP and a little too pricy to waste on Janta, guess we could maybe try to prove to our guildmates we are useful in DWB or Corvette though. Doubt it because of the high energy resists on the mobs in there, but we can run around a lot and hope a rifleman dies first, just so we can feel better having done nothing.
670 damage without powerup? Trust me, a powerup was used somewhere, allow me to demonstrate. The best possible result for a DE-10, no tissue is around 270 max damage according to my guild smith, let's add a 180 max tissue, max is now 450, damage slice, even a 35% only give 605 max, I'll just reverse engineer that weapon now, average slice is what, about 28%, 670 - 28% = 524 damage, -180 gives us 340 damage, nope what about removing a 33% powerup, 524 - 33% = 394 damage, -270 to find the loot and... a 120ish tissue, all the best resources, a powerup and a damage slice. Case proven, either your friend or is weaponsmith is an exploiter, sorry.
As for the T21, quick damage comparison. Your friends possibly exploited DE-10 vs my 530 damage stocked T21. Your speed capped last ditch vs zero armour and zero resists, raw dps for just the weapon is 670x1.5x6 +25% = 7537 whereas my T21 is 530*1.5*5 + 75% = 6956, calculation used is max damage of weapon x marksman output bonus x special move damage modifier + armour piercing bonus vs zero armour to give a raw figure. The statement you made about it being better than a T21 is correct, but you didn't know that for certain until I proved it there. Read the paragraph above and you'll see that I also proved your friend has an exploited pistol, since the majority of players don't do this, so their DE-10s will not be T21's in disguise.
You said you have BH pistols 4 and shoot at the speed cap, you say you last ditch guys to death, you say you have 20mil in attachments, do you use ANY pistoleer skills at all except the weapon certs for De-10 and geonosian pistol? Didn't think so, well done, you just proved the original posters point, master pistoleer sucks, you have to spend another 150 skill points on pistol skills to compete and you still have to display some talent in combat or you'll still die due to mediocre damage. Perhaps this guy is yet to learn his pistols as much as you or I, but he has obviously tried, there's nothing to work with in the pistoleer profession, you NEED the other pistol skills to compete, that's his point.
I recommend that nobody else post here unless they're been a pure master pistoleer, no BH and no attachments. Smugglers/pistoleers and master pistoleer/mastermarks are welcome as they're still close enough to see the problem with pistoleer, this is a discussion about the master pistoleer profession and what makes it worth it, not pistol templates.

You mastered Pistoleer because they have style, star warsiness, and you had a geniune interest in them. Maybe you knew what you were getting into at the time, maybe not, but the interest was there. It was more important to you than being uber. You mastered it because at the time you thought "Master Pistoleer" sounded like the coolest thing in the world, and that it truly meant "Master of Pistols." There's nothing wrong or foolish with that. When we're fixed, you'll be glad you did. I've little doubt that a lot of Pistoleers who switchto Rifles or TKAwill come back for love of the profession.
