Thread: Are all DX2s like this?

Once I got novice pistoleer, I got myself a DX2 as soon as I could. I don't have the stats right now, but it was pretty good but with nasty HAM costs. Is that normal? I know that can happen to guns in crafting, but is it also a general DX2 trait? I've still been prefering my Scout blaster over anything. With fair damage, below 2.0 speed and 11/22/11 HAM, most scout blasters I find seem to be working much better for me. But I haven't been doing a whole lot of shopping, just looking when I find a shop. I'm pretty much only using my DX2 for acid vuln creatures. I'd rather spam specials withmy scout than kill myself with a DX2.

Scout Blasters are a good weapon until you go up the speed line, after you're done with that a Republic Blaster will be great for engergy damage. As for the high HAM costs, it's a tradoff for the higher damage, plus who fights unbuffed anyway?

Yeah, the HAM costs on the DX2 are higher than you are used to, even up to 44 on the Action. The Republic Blaster is even a little worse. I've seen them go with 49 on Action. It's really a judgement call, but most people choose the higher damage weapons and make up for the HAM costs with buffs (or they just accept it). There are some handy Action and Action substat foods (my favorite is accarrgm) for the Pistoleer who doesn't want to mess with finding or paying for a Doctor.

It all depends on who crafted the weapon and what resources and how they use there experimentation etc.. (I dont know a whole lot about being a weaponsmith). My dx2 isnt very good ham cost wise but I forget were I got it.

All depends on what the weaponsmith was shooting for. Prior to the last patch and change to the accuracy of the DX2, when I still made pistols, I used to drop a pretty HAM heavy scope into my DX2's. That raised the HAM costs considerably, into the high 40's for action. I had to, just to get them to the point where you could hit anything. Now that the ranges have been fixed, there may be some weaponsmiths that are still clearing out old stock, or are putting heavier encumberance scopes than are now neccesary on their pistols out of habit. You may want to shop around a little. Best of all, is to find a master weaponsmith that will work with you to craft a pistol to order. I used to do that quite often. As far as the HAM vs damage question, when I'm not buffed, I prefer my 11/29/11 HAM DL44 over my other heavier weapons. All personal taste though. I once made a run of Republics with an action cost of 63! Of course the range mods were also +0/+0/+0....

Depends.. if I'm just grinding exp or faction, I fight unbuffed and in the case of most creatures, unarmored. But then, my template allows for that.

accarragm is my favorite pistoleer supplement...... normal, unenhanced is roughly +200ish to all action stats for 40 mins, and you can usually take two swigs at a time..... BE enhanced will be in upwards of the mid 400's- that's almost 900 to all action stats

also blob candy is good (i know, i know, hear me out) it adds about +40 to action but you can eat like 10 at a time, for +400 to action.... there's also a food that adds to secondaries (very similar to accarragm, but just adds to the secondaries)

and booster blue is a good "panic button" spice to leave hot-keyed in case you're spamming too many specials and get close to biting it

just check on the chef boards and ask around and see if you can't find a chef near you to help you out

also doc buffs are great.... go outside of theed or coronet, look around for someone with a master doc title and a long line in front of them..... usually you will spend 6 to 10k for a full set, they last 2-3 hours, so you'll be in good shape for quite some time..... while doc buffed, you'll regenerate more than you waste from specials

sorry about the long post, i was rather inspired lol

lol.. good idea. I wonder if we'll ever see looted item components that do things like increase accuracy or decrease HAM cost. All these damage items.. after awhile you need something for the semi-common man, even if it's just for variety. You know?

If they had ever thought to add something htat would have let me work on tweeking weapons effectively for range and HAM costs, I'd still be a master weaponsmith, instead of a TKM. All I can say there, is don't hold your breath.

fwiw.. master pistol, master smuggler commando 0030. in pve my order of favorite guns dx2, fwg5 feather, lp, republic then scout

in pvp my order of fav guns are: dx2, lp, then the republic and then the geo

but then again i am master smuggler. i have been known to buy crates of dx2, lp, scouts and slice them and toss the bad sliced guns into the "guild grind pistol bag" and keep the pretty ones for my self. i dont intend to put a punch line in the next sentance. with all the combat medics running rampant on ahazi there is also a streak of rampant docs trying to counter these cm. there is an abundance of docs available inside the guild and outside the guild for buffing (aka my template has zero medic) therefore i dont care one single bit about ham. and maybe i do have an edge being master smuggler.. even on starter planets i can slice a terminal and get two missions high enough to pay the buff cost. yes i did have some pre what ever dx2.. they sucked and got destroyed immediately when my trusty weapon guy made some of the new dx2. i have also noticed that in pvp my dx2 does more damage then my crafted geo pistol (too bad i got a 31 speed slice on it) even with the nice high acid resist armor, i usually tend to do atleast 5 percent more damage with the dx2 over the geo (armor piercing.. as a pistoleer live it, learn it and obey it. none of our other cork guns can do diddle)

and yes i do put the lp up there in pvp for various reasons some more mental then actual but the turrets sure hate them.

i am smuggler, fear my cork guns
episode II: i am no longer smuggler i no longer fear the cork guns or the delay on the delay for the revamp.. leave a message after the beep when revamp comes and then i shall return. but then maybe i will show them and do a delay on my return.. ha!!! take that soe (if they have not frustrated me more then i already am)

My alternate character isa Master Weaponsmith and I've been doing some playing around with the SR Combat pistol. I always thought these were crap but I was pleasantly surprised by some of the stats, especially when you add a good quality scope to them (not to mention the gun looks incredible with a scope on it). Mine is sliced and I think it's 2.4 speed and 180 something max damage with AP1 on it. Not too bad. I'll post the HAM costs to it later when I am on.

SR Combat PIstols are pretty good. If I remember correctly, they have relatively small damage ranges which reduces the effect of ranged damage mitigation. Out of curiosity, what was the minimum damage on that weapon?

I remembered that the SR had AP a while back, but had never seen one with anything better than average stats. Since then, I've been trying to find one to see if they're any good, but it seems they are all but nonexistant. I guess I'll have to get a custom order or something.
