Thread: Your personal choice for grinding XP to Master Pistoleer?

Melee classes have the advantage of using spin macros to grind up to master in a few buff sessions. The cloest thing ranged weps have are the spots on Mos Eisley where they can afk for grouped XP and loot killing various faction mobs, depending on the spawn.

So where did you guys choose to hunt for the actual grind? I'm getting ready to head up the road to master pistoleer and asking those who've come before their tips and tricks always is helpful.

I see a few negative posts on the board. Is everyone unhappy with the state of pistoleer? I was planning on Grinding up to BH Desperado tree and mastering pistols or using a split with pistoleer defenses and the Rogue offensive tree. But their seems to be negativity surrounding pisotls from reading the boards. Anyone have some positive advice input about pistol grinding and template choices for BH?

grind up /fanshot, get a scatter or DX2, head to the blueleaf temple, spam till it hurts.

you will find most pistoleers a cynical bunch, no med/heavy AP weapons, and no speed advantage on top of a mess of broken specials has made us the red headed stepchild in a melee-centric world. The pistol All-star build you are thinkin of is a good one, lots of tools in the box, sadly most of the ones you use won't be from pistoleer. We will be providing weapon certs and defenses for you to bolster your BH speed/accy/attacks and smugg attacks.

As long as your willing to dabble pistols can be very versitile, but if you keep it "pure" your pretty much boned.

We do have one advantage over other proffs tho, we work better than most when unbuffed.

The negativity you are referring to typically stems from tow issues: (1) Many of the pistoleer specials are currentlybroken (and have been for ages), and (2) Pistoleers aren'tvery competitive with melee professions or Riflemen in PvP. Both of these issues should (hopefully) be fixed with the Combat Upgrade that is due out soon (just how soon is anybody's guess).

In PvE, pistoleers can't take out a lot of the high-end mobs that professions that TK and Swordsmen can, but they can definitely still hold their own, and a lot of people (me included) will swear that being a pistoleer is a lot more fun than being a melee profession, in spite of its shortcomings. It's very cool to have so many different damage types at our disposal, and to be able to take out a mob without ever going near it. I for one am definitely not unhappy being a pistoleer. I love it and will always be one. I do have Bounty Hunter pistols (Desperado)too though, and that makes it a lot more enjoyable and more powerful (as would Smuggler pistols). If I were you I would pick either Master Pistoleer/Desperado or Master Pistoleer/Rogue (whichever intererests you the most--I don't think one is any better than the other).

As for where to hunt for grinding, everybody seems to have a different opinion about that. One of my favorite places was the Squill Cave on Tat. You need to be buffed and well-armored (kinetic armor) to go there though, because you will take heavy damage when you are surrounded by a mass of squill. Other people will tell you to hunt quenkers or huurtons on Dantooine. Those are good choices too because you get good XP, and also get paid for running the destroy missions.

Good luck!

I strongly agree with that. I hardly ever get buffed anymore.

I did my brand new pistoleer character like this;

Start: Hit the bazaar and got three fast pistols. A d18, a scout and an SR combat pistol. Bought good used comp chest piece, gloves, boots and helmet. Got a BE enhanced shirt and pants. One with bonus to intimidate and the other a bonus to melee def/stun. Bought some crates of 400+ powered stim Bs. Then I went to the medic trainer and the brawler trainer and learned both of these novice skills.

Skill gain: Travelled to Rori and cleared out the borgle cave first accompanied by a friend who was a master BH. He was able to train my skills as I got them. I was up to pistols 3 by the time I got to the bottom of the cave. Next we travelled to the Pigmy Torton cave. I was able to get pistols 4 here very easy and also get through the full carbine tree (as I was going for master marksman).

Now that I had some pistol and carbine skill I did a quick detour to finish up master marksman. After that was done (again all on Rori in the caves) I travelled to Dantooine and started taking picket plains walker missions (9k-10k each). With help from a friend we were doing four per trip and I rapidly increased my skill from master marksman to BH to BH pistols 4 (I got a great scatter for cheap that made the pistol grind completely painless for me). Once I had that it was very simple for me to get pistol tech 4 and grips 3. After you get pistol speed and fanshot you can get skill a number of different ways.I recomend doing this.... Don't try to camp the blue leaf temple. Instead join the faction of your choice and attack the faction NPCs. With fanshot you can great xp, loot and faction with little to no danger.there are plenty of player placed bases that are great places to get skill. Also don't underestimate taking missions on Dantooine. I made half a million credits on picket plains walker missions while building my skill which is just what I needed to pay for some of the foods and things I needed to increase my character's skills to the point where I could go after high end game content.

I had a couple of probot auto-repair tanks from when I wasa DE. I used them to tank spineflaps on Naboo (works great with fan shot) until the xp sucked. I then headed to Endor and killed wild spawns using the same method, getting my 2000-3500 xp per killthat I was used to. I just chose the lairs wisely, had a crate of decent droid stims for emergencies (1100+), and never had to get buffed.

Heres what you do:

if you are starting from scratch at marksman novice and have money from being in game with other profs before.

1) go to theed with a speed sliced CEDF pistol and get the first box of pistols

2) go get a nice DL-44 you can normaly get thim with enough dmg to rival a average rep blaster for 4k.

hopefully get a speed slice. I got mine to final stats of 1.9 speed 94 min 200 max

3) get buffed, or not, and spam "/aim" "/overcharge shot" on all the little criters out there, tell you get to

the 4th box, to do the fourth box and novice pistols, go to a main NPC city like coronet or kaddara and

find some npc's that con white to you. Spam "/pointblankarea1"

4) within that first buff session you should be novice pistoler.

5) get a rep blaster, get a speed slice hoepefully. Most good rep blasters cost 10-20k.

6) go to lok, corellia, or any mid lvl planet and start grinding

If you grinding from master marksman:

Hopefully you have the 60k combat xp to get bh novice if so:

1) grind novice pistols

2) grind desperado, on a mid to high lvl planet like dant hunting quenkers.

3) with the combat XP you gain while grinding desperado lvl up pistol speed and melee defence "pistol

techs" i belive

4) once you have finished deseperado you should be at or near pistols 0004. Youl almost be speed

caped

5) start grinding pistol grips first. use torso shot and body shot and bleed shots to demolish your enemys

heal bar fastest.

6) use stopping shot once you have it to grind the pistol dodge tree, then the accuracy tree. You should be using a geo blaster once you have the abilitie to use it.

7) grind rougue if your going that route. After you have rogue use last ditch at all times (unless you care alot about your weapon, last ditch does one dmg to cond per 3 attacks i belive)

fixed it for ya, I think you were using the old tree names.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think i'm definitely doing the split tree with pistoleer defense and rogue offenses. I wanted to update on my hunting spots and how it was going in case anyone just starting out is reading this.

As pistoleer 0020 I've been hunting Quenkers on Dantooine, not in solo groups. I have a Combat droid that I leave at base for group bonus and the mission difficulties are 32. I'm getting about 100k per hour or 300k pistol XP per buff session without being very efficient in terms of chooisng missions close together etc..

I'm using DX-10 at 2.4 137-187 mostly, with a Modified Republic Blaster in case i get a few adds, I will spam Point Blank area with the blaster which has a Bleed DoT. Otherwise I simply use a DoubleTap macro and point it at whatever I'm blasting. Healthshot 2 works very well on the quenkers, but not on the lair. DoubleTap works well on both and they noly have 10% resist to Acid DMG.

I will try a few other places suggested as well. I do appreciate all the positive input.

This is the way I did it...

1st grind out BH pistols.

Get a decent scatter or dx-2 pistol

Go to Dant find quenker lairs, huurton lairs (make sure they are NOT mission lairs. Mission lairs do not produce as man spawns)

Target the lair itself and spam Point Blank Area 1. In one buff session you will easily get 600-800k pistol experience.

Go up the tree on the far left (forge the name) it has point blank area 2.

The rest is history, you can master pistols in 2 days.
