Thread: Feel free to laugh at me

Ok, I'm master dancer/master Pistoleer. (yeah, i am the single most useless character on my server)

Does anyone here have any advice that would help me be more effective in PvPwithout the option of smuggler or bh specials and weapons?

Some things to keep in mind about my very special template (as in short bus special). The first thing is that it's not going to change -so if your big advice is to drop pistoleer or dancer then keep it to yourself. I have +8 ranged and melee defense from dancer, I can use stim b's and I have warcry and intimidate from novice brawler and other than that all I have is what I get from Master Pistoleer.

Should I be running/kiting or standing still (no scout)? Am I better off trying to drain health or using the higher damage random shots? Should I try to keep close to other ranged opponents? What advantages do I have over the other combat classes.

I'm aware that pistoleer is broken and without BH or Smuggler it's not much to work with but I'm new to PvP and can only assume there is at least some tatics to it. Help please?

Well, if you get good tips, work on gettin' skill attachments. That'll help you a bit to hit speed cap. Get good guns too. In theory, any template should work. Just work on knowing your specials, and those of your opponents. With the defs, you will be ok, but not great standing still. Use the + to accuracy while running mods to your advantage and /burstrun while fighting.

unfortunately a lot of the pistoleer specials are broken at the moment, so it makes it difficult to use the specials effectively

if you scroll through the posts and read those of interest to you, you will find that quite a few people use Fanshot and Stopping shot quite effectively. In addition i VERY much like to use Pistol Defence as it is a pretty effective KD (not super powerful mind you but it works), and while your opponent is down you can use your Warcry to keep them there for a few while you unload some heavy shots on them.

the problems you are going to (and most likely HAVE) run into are mostly based on the fact that pistols quite simply don't do enough damage. The new Geo-Stun guns are nice, but most certainly are no Jawa Ion Rifles. As mentioned before, though considered Master Gunfighters...(ahem) Master Pistoleers, Pistoleers are NOT the best class, nor the fastest class with pistols...? (go figure)

you do get bonuses for shooting on the move, and you become harder to hit while you do so. also, Pistoleers have bonuses for being up close, pretty well in Melee range, while both Carbineer and Riflemen suffer penalties for being too close. of course you are going to have one BAD DAY when you run into a Master Rifleman / Master Teras Kasi Artist, because if you stay ranged you are dead, and if you come into melee range you are dead...basically you are dead.

i don't want to be all doom and gloom. there are some nice advantages to Pistols over Carbine (speed and accuracy) and over Rifle (Close Range, and moving while shooting - though they do have strafe shot) so if you read the posts here, and find suggestions that you think will work with your play style, give them all a shot (no pun intened) and just see what works for you.

i would love to give you more advice, but i have taken the Dirty Fighting line from Smuggler, and Novice Commando to supplement my Pistoleer. hopefully by the time i reach Master Pistoleer, it will make me somewhat of a 'Launcher Pistol Specialist' for a while

always stay on the move while fighting , use fanshot over stopping shot unless your weapon is faster than 1.4 or you have pistol speed attachments . get a post publish 6 dx-2 ( accuracy mods got fixed ) its probably the best weapon we get for pvp (excluding geo blaster ) because of the low spread between minimum and maximum damage and the ap1 . before a pvp encounter eat the food that gives defence to knockdown and increases accuracy ( if you have room in your tummy eat a damage reducing synthsteak as well ). always use sliced and poweruped weaponry .

basically the only realistic chance of success is to be better prepared then the person you are fighting . keep in mind that apart from the fact that pistoleer is a weak profession the rest of your skill points have not been invested in combat skills so dont feel bad if you get beaten , just enjoy the game

if you have good gear you can do very well in pvp. SEA's/armor/powerful pistols/buffs and you will be set. the more experience you get, the better you will become. learn how your specials work best in different situations. You would be a valuable asset in a base raid. Dancers help to counter CMs mind poison. a master dancer that can defend himself would be even more useful.

and there was much rejoicing...

Thanks, folks.

Yeah, they are loving me on base defense/attacks. I go tear-assing in there and start dancing inside enemy bases. It's kind of funny actually. And with the fix to the death bug on mind buffs they'll be loving me even more (go go patch 7!!!!).

I have a geonosian pistol that was a gift to me (gotta love being a sexy dancer) and some other really great weapons. At the moment I start out with the new republic blaster in my hands to get a decent bleed on then switch to geonosian against an armored opponent or my super duper pre-nerf fwg5 for an unarmored opponent.

SEA's are a bit of an issue, I do make decent tips but on my server the price of decent sea's is often in the multi millions (perhaps I should start charging for those invaluable mind heals in the bases). I could probably only manage to get one, any suggestions on what would be the most valuable?

Oh and as for combat templates, I just can't do it. I absolutely adore dancing. I've gotten kind of used to watching the fights while laying on my back-no biggie. I only ask for help because I figured there were at least a few advantages I was missing out on.

Thanks again for the wonderful advice and support.

Ok, so my guildies totally hooked me up and, although I fear I'll never be Ub3r, I was completely kicking ass yesterday!

Geonosian with mind poison dot,a super duper modified republicblaster,a lovely dx2 (for at-st's and turrets)a few pieces of composite armor with accuracy sea's as well as defense to poison and disease. Add in 9 stat buffs, food and drugs to supplement my mind andthe bestteam of doctors on the server at our backs and I was able to fight for about 2 hour straight without getting frustrated and giving up. I picked up over 1k faction points just from pvp. It was sooo fun!!

A few speed tapes and I'll be one tough chic!

Thanks for the tips and suggestions (and a big hi5 to the devs for alowing folks with templates like mine back into combat). I really appreciate the help.
