Is it totally impossible for me as a master pistoleer/master smuggler to be effective at PVP??

No but if I were you. I would consider getting the BH Pistol line and maybe some of the BH Carb line (Fire KD)
Combine Last Ditch with a nice gun with some of the Bountyhunter attacks (Torso shot, Eye shot, Fire Knockdown)
as well as keeping your target intimidated with Novice Brawler and you should be in good shape.

Not very effective 1 on 1 unless you catch someone without stun armor. You basically need BH pistols (mainly eye shot) to compete.
I ditched M.Pistoleer + Rogue for M.Pistoleer + 0440 BH becauseit just wasn't cutting it.Torso Shot, Eye Shot, Confusion Shot, andFireKD more than make up for Last Ditch and Low Blow. Supression fire also works great to lower posture with pistols so loosing Low Blow wasn't a big deal to me.

I have been Pistoleer since I started I also have BH pistol 4 and I am reasonably competive at PvP. I use a high damage Geo Blaster and Eye shot.
PvP is more about Food / Armour than your combat template IMO.
people will tell you that pistol suck in PvP but I can wear 90% kinectic + shied gen armour eat synth steak and that devense vs knock down food (always forget its name) and TK masters can beat on me all day long with no effect 
So choose what ever template you like buy the correct gear and have fun.

P.S. I am by no means a PvP veteran (more like a advanced newb) but this is my take on it.

that's right
i do pvp in full storm armor and with a stock of good foods of galaxy
im master smuggler, pistoleer & tka , and our defences can stop many fighting template... just hope one day, we can dodge lightsaber and poison...
Having a good gun with dot is useful too. think about that and feign death when a Jedi Knight hits u =p

It is possible however I feel that the Smuggler DF line doesn't add much to a regular M.Pistoleer. Without either BH Pistols or TKM you'll have a lot of trouble in PVP.

cap out on speed and get a good geo and a really good DE-10, and hit that last ditch every second. pick up novice brawler and keep your enemy intimidated, throw down the panic shot which will give you 10 seconds to heal, switch guns, eat food, whatever you want to do, then just keep laying down the last ditch. Or just pick up TKM and do tripple threat. It is a very effective template, 1v1 and large scale pvp.

the Triple master can be excellent at pvp. plain old pistoleer/smuggler isn't really enough to cut it though. You can be an excellent support person though.

I think you need a reliable source of mind damage to compete in pvp using a pistol, so BH pistol 4 is a must have.

No.. its not totally impossible..
What you do, is go to tant, and find a noob, who has no armor or nothing...
he\she just made a new guy...
And see if you can PVP them.
Then you MIGHT win.
But that's about it.

It's not totally impossible but you have to know your strengths and weaknesses. Don't expect to be the hero but view yourself as a good support. You won't get all those numerous kills under your belt but you will be the support personnel that helped win the battle in large scale pvp. 1on1 pvp is a different story. Yes you can win against an inexperienced player and also a player that panics. Throw a bleed in there and many times they take off running to heal themselves giving you an open. Always remember to panic shot then peace. It keeps them down for the full 10 seconds till you shoot them again. That works good in large scale pvp.But enjoy your wins and take your losses with a grain of salt and the knowledge of what to do next time.
Know when to use each shot and you will be more effective. The pvp guids are good to read up on too. There are some very good guids that have been made. Your combo is fun to have cause I have it as well. But like the other posters said "get TKM". I have to agree. It'll give you another avenue of combat and is fun as well.

You can win about 2 out of 3 fights. If anything, you can just aggravate a 1337, and then high tail it out. Smuggler/pistoleer is not honorable you have to fight realdirty if you want to kill some pc's. You dont stand a chance up close to master swordsman. But bomb droids, /lowblows, /pistolmeleedefence, /lastditches, /panics,/FDs,you have to really fight dirty.
Don't fear just a measlyCM. Except the CM/Rifleman/ monsters. CM's always try to rush smugs 1 on 1it seems, and we stand a good chance if you have a decent sonic blasterand some vasarian. Another favorite is the over confident Master Marksman.
Then suddenly someone just uses us to mop the floor which motivates you to go get some TK.
