Thread: Is stopping shot worth it?

Well, I've been working my tree to get stopping shot, and I'm hoping stopping shot is worth it, because I get better damage with body shot 2 than with double tap. So, is stopping shot worth the xp?

It depends on your speed. When your speed is low (let's say around +50) Healthshot1 will do more dps than ANY other attack you can make with a pistol (even Lastditch), and it even targets the health pool. When you speed is higher (let's say around +75) Healthshot2 will do more dps than any other attack (well, it actually ties with Lastditch, but again Healthshot2 will target health and so is better).

Once you cap speed on your pistol, Stopping Shot is your most damaging pistoleer special. Lastditch will outdamage it, however, and at that point Eyeshot is attractive because it targets mind. Also, don't forget the cone attack on Fanshot, it can be handy with a small group of enemies standing next to each other.

(Play with stats at the SWG Damage Calculator).

I've got BH Pistol 4, Dirty Fighting 4 and 4-0-4-4 Pistoleer (and Novice Commando) and Stopping Shot is one of my most frequently-used specials.

In PvE, nothing does more damage to a single target - not Health Shot 2, not Fan Shot. I've checked the combat spam to find which specials work best for me and Stopping Shot is tops. I will use Fan Shot on a group of mobs at range to damage them all as much as possible until they close - then I Low Blow to KD them (or Pistol Whip if Low Blow doesn't stick), Panic Shot for the delay, follow up with 3 or 4 Stopping Shots, toss in a Last Ditch to delay them again, and finish off with more Stopping Shots if needed.

Even if you don't have Smuggler, you will still find that Stopping Shot, Fan Shot and Pistol Whip will be your most widely used specials, with Health Shot for bleeds if needed (I don't usually do that because the more they bleed, the less xp you get for the kill).

And I use Stopping Shot with the Launcher Pistol to blow up lairs (I used to use the LLC with Lightning Single 2 until I surrendered that tree). It's not 6k per shot like the LLC, but 1500-2000 points per shot is still fast enough on the lair. So I don't get Pistol XP for the lair, no worries. It's better to blow it up, get the reward and move on to the next mission anyhow.

I don't PvP so I can't speak on that, but in PvE Stopping Shot will be your best friend.

Stopping shot is the special with the highest damage multiplier for pistoleers. However, when using it against a single target, it is probably better to use a special that targets a specific pool, such as HS2. This is because stopping shot will deal it's damage to a random pool, whereas HS2 will always hit health. So while stopping shot is doing 1500 damage, it is going to hit the action and mind pool too, HS2 is always the same, so you won't lose damage on other pools. And yeah, launcher pistol + launcher pistol = bad day for turrets

EDIT: launcher pistol + stopping shot= bad day for turrets

You are so right on Bridonar.
I use Fan Shot on MOB's bunched together, than change to HS2 to a single target. Then I destroy the lair with Stopping Shot.

The only other special I use is pistol whip for the KD.

Exactly. Stopping shot has a 5x damage multiplier, which is the highestamongst allpistoleer specials. If you start talking about other profs, then last ditch does the highest damage, eye shot is the best shot for PvP, and torso shot should replace HS2, as it has a better DoT

Yea but only when you get alot of pistol speed, because stopping shot is a slow ability.
