we suckat pvp in2005, same way that we sucked in 2004 and 2003. And for the lunatic people that say we don't suck, here's a highlight:


"sure, i can be competitive in pvp with my super buffs , my +7xx dmg de-10 and my +550 geo blaster, my 90%, 40% stunresist armor, good fire and poison mind dots all my cloth and armor attachs that costed around 100 milions , and sliced psg's... problems start when i face someone that also invested thousands ofcredits on his FOTM profession, thatuses a +1100 t-21 and has as many dot as me,, then i stop being competitive.... and i'm owned as fast as I own normal guys using standard weaponry vs my top loot weapons.."

When I go hunting with friends, I might as well not be there. They do thousands of points of damage per second, many more times the damage than I do. I can see this reading the combat screen, seeing the damage pts flying over head and in the xps I get. I see them kill in one or two hits, a few seconds of combat with I take a two min to kill it. They get thousands of xps, I get 300. At the village when it get attacked, I often get single digit xps when things die. I can't get decient xps when hunting with others, so I hunt alone when going for xps.


My view is that all master professions should do about the same damge per second when using their master level weapon, using their master level special attack. And that for pvp, any master profession should have a 50/50 chance of winning against another master in another profession.

pve dps problems


Actually, to be completly honest, I don't think we have problems in PVE... the others are just overpowered. From what i know of the initial swg concept and my own experience in July/august 2003, pistoleer,in the way it is and works at the present is "inside the expected scenario". Pistoleer -and to a point fencer- were supposed to be fast hitting/low to medium damage professions, being thespeed the equaliser factor in dps.Riflemans, carbineers, swordsman etcwere not supposed to spam their ultimate skill each second. Nevertheless, the unperfect speed formula allowed what i think the developerswere not expecting, speed cap to every combat profession. Let's not be naive, riflemans were not supposed to spam headshot3at 1.0 speed. And this can be extended to any other combat profession that uses slow firing high damageweapons with medium toheavy armor piercing. So, the others are overpoweredwhile we aren't.


Possible solutions:

-nerf others

-increase our damage output potential


When faced with the abysmal damage output of many combat professions , the dev team tried to counter that creating npcs and creatures with THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of HAM, and that didn't help the pistoleer profession. Worse. without any AP above light, basicly 75% is not only above pistoleer capacity but also puts pistoleer in dependency of the "good will of others", since pistoleer can't even make any valuable contribution to "group offensive power".


And to make things even worse, not only our specials were bably designed (few states, health or randon ham targeting) but around 60% of them aretruely brokenor don't work as intended. Things got to a point where the purepistoleer lives and breaths on a "bugged" special, fanshot... an AOE skill that was not supposed to be AOE ( in theory fanshot would mean hitting 1 target multiple times, not multiple targets 1 time)or simply has to stack his pistols skills with other profession that have pistol special (BH, Commando, Smuggler) to achieve a slightly better offensive power ( a costly solution in skill point terms).


In pvp pistoleer profession suffers from the conjugation of all these factors plus the stoppingpower of composite armors, that deny what could be the pistoleer saving factor, the ability to use multiple damage types -kinetic, energy, heat, acid, blast, stun; and the high regeneration power of health due to buffs .

Exactly. Without supporting skills a pistoleer can not compete against a profession like rifleman. We need to basicly either go up the bounty hunter pistols tree or the smuggler to get any decent attacks. Where as a rifle only needs his proffesion. To top that off as powerful as a rifleman is it only needs one skill tree to get leaving the master rifle many chocies to make templates with to add to his power. Mainly CM.


Combine a high strength posion and desease with head shot three and the person on the recieving end is going down fast. This template is one that most people use to hunt krayts with. Ive had one person using this template outdamage me and 9 other people while hunting krayts. Unfair?? I think so.

the whole profession (maybe game) is fubar.


the good

-----------

state defenses - woot

many damage types


the bad

---------

broken specials everywhere

low dps with standard guns, we hit for 1500-ish dmg, most other professions hit for 2500, at the same speed as us, compounded by lack of AP

regular defenses almost ensure we get hit with every attack.


the summary

-----------------

melee professions have more melee/ranged defenses than we do

melee professions can lunge2 inside our effective ranges

melee professions by far outdamage us with standardweapons vs our uber guns (broken specials?)


ranged professions (other) all have more speed than we do

ranged professions (other) all have more ranged/melee defenses than we do

ranged professions (other)all out damage us by far


pistoleer dodge does is no where near as effective as fencer dodge (likely due to melee/ranged defenses)

pistoleers have 1 useful tree (tech)

pistoleer pve content ENDS with rancors - anything bigger and we are monster kibble.


anything else? what did I miss.. heh

I agree with all of you. Its like the Pistoleer tree is the most expensive tree, for weapons and the most broken one too. I remember then Disarm shot actually would put the opponents weapon back in there inventory.

just to clarify, in the early days of '03, before the knockdown nerfs, pistoleer and bounty hunters were kings

but i do agree, we are horribly slighted atm

Don't be pistoleer and not have the BH line. i have the BH line and can stand toe to toe with alot of melee people and kill them.


Foods u need: Pickata, ITHORIAN MIST (very helpful) and Thakillo (also a life saver)


Take two brandies 15 mins b4 u fight then take the ithorian mist. they will have a hard time dizzying u and when u take the Thakillo it will be EXTREMELY hard for them to hurt you. NOW... Pickata is my personal best friend. i got the stuff like 26 mins for 53% dodge. on top of you dodge (like 105) you will dodge alot.


if u dont use thakilo like i do use Synth steak also.


Think about it. you are dueling a TKM . - he can only do kinetic. Swords? Blast and kinetic. If you got like 70% base... With pickata he wont hit you 50% of them time and when he does hit you 40% of that is abosrbed by synth then you got your 70% base armour which will negate almost all dmg lol.


When i PVP this is what i do: INTIMIDATE (KEY) Whip out geo health bleed 170 strength. Hit guy with it once switch to 316 max geo then do torso shot like 5 times. then i use health shot 2 and start wailing on him with Last ditch (pistoleers best friend) If the intimidate runs out i Intimidate him a gain. just mess the guy up with last ditch and get him pissed off with torso shot.



OK your all gonna say "none of those moves are pistoleer specials" and you are right. If you want to be good at pvp with pistoleer you need to add BH Line at least. U get speed capped for free and your accuracy is like 140 which is pretty good.
