Thread: Wow! Incredible New Way to Pull Social Mobs!
Well, if you've heard the news you've heard that now social mobs do not aggro until the target your attacking enters battle mode. However I've found a way to seperate a social mob from the group without its buddies noticing! Here's how its done.
- Go prone.
- Apply your bleeds on the target. Since prone gives you the advantage of not being seen for a few seconds your target will not react.
- Hit peace right after your bleeds.
- Stand up.
- Move out of the targets range.
- Wait until the first bleed kicks in. Your target will immediately make a b-line for you, but none of his buddies will follow!
- Even better yet, the second you sick your pets on him, he'll forget you and attack them.
I've tried this a number of different social mobs, and it seems to work on all of them. So what do you folks thing? Exploit or valid tactic?
Thats drawing a very thin line between exploit and tactic there. Once a creature takes damage, all his buddies are supposed to engage...likely the devs didn't compensate for the bleed effect resulting in the creature aggroing you even if you are not in combat with it at the time.
It could potentially be a valid tactic however, but, like I said, thats a real thin line lol.
i think there are very few real exploits, this to me sounds like a very valid tactic

Actually its once the creature enter battle mode they are all supposed to engage. Prone and kneeling is designed to give your character a few moments of cover before the enemy realizes where the shots are coming from. So they actually take a couple shots of damage before they engage, and all their buddies as well.
I personally think this is valid since to me its no different than waiting for an enemy to wander away from its camp so its buddies won't be close enough to assist it. But I don't know, some people I think might view this as exploit. That's why I wanted to come here and find out what people thought.
Hmm, tricky. But bearing in mind a social mob is effectively shouting to his mates "Oi, this guy just shot me! Lets get him", they should probably all attack so I would say it was a bug.

Speaking as someone who hunts creatures for a living... I say it's a valid tactic.
In my mind, an exploit would be if you were doing something that took advantage of a glitch in the system (ie standing inside of lairs or walking through mountains, etc).
This is just smart hunting - shoot, sneak away and then BAM - he finds you!
Valid tactic for now. Dunno if the distinction needs to be made at this point. However, I usually define an exploit as something the devs will fix if they catch wind of too many people using it.
To me, this definitely falls under that category.
Tactic for sure...no "fine line" here. I'm getting a little tired of people giving sooo much intelligence and credit to creatures and insects. Why should they and my character play at the same level? Why shouldnt I be able to out smart them.
I applaud Monthigos. Good job thinking outside the box.
I doubt this is an exploit... because it's actually a FIX that the devs just finished for the riflemen.
previously, when you shot a fambaa from cover, with /concealshot, it would take hits, and not know where they came from... as ling as your HAM held out, you could continue to snipe... UNLESS there were other fambaa around. they would IMMEDIATELY spot you (as soon as you entered combat), and they would stomp you flat. meanwhile, your intended target would munch grass, happy to be taking damage from an unknown source.
the devs admitted that this was NOT intended... so now mobs won't social if ONE enters combat (whether from bleed/peace, or from concealed shots)... unless you're in range for multiple mobs to spot you and BAF.
similarly... if a CH is masked and peaced, and tries to tame a baby... and the tame fails, and the baby aggros... as long as you're /peaced, you can run away, trailing the baby, while the rest of the pack (aggro or non, social or not) blithely continues about their business.
it seems that CURRENTLY... social mobs will NOT aid in attacks, unless they see YOU attack... so if something is coming at you, and you are /peaced, you'll only have to worry about the ONE thing you're facing.
btw, creature (scout) rules make this a little more complicated. if you can one-hit a scout, do it. if not, then leave it for LAST.
