OK... I feel so stupid asking this... but what is the point of fanshot? I mean, it's higher up the skill-tree than stopping shot, but does less dmg. According to the description when you hover your cursor over the skill, it says it's a powerful shot that hits a target multiple times. However, I almost never get even close to doing the same dmg as stopping shot when I use fan. (Incidentally, stopping shot doesn't "stop" anything...!?!)

It hits more than 1 target, it is very useful in both PvP and PvE.

Alot of our descriptions have nothing at all to with the actual effects of our specials. We are trying to get the specials to work as described, or to have the descriptions changed.
/fan is an AOE attack, with a "kill zone" that is a 30 degree forward cone, but it will only damage opponents you have already damaged in combat. Try tagging all the baddies with a /bodyshot, then unleashing /fan. You will see a marked improvement in the effects.

I think it damages anything that even your pets hit. I usually send my pets in on a group of kungas, the kungas all stream towards the pets and then I unload fan shot which hits them all. This is also a VERY efficent way to make money. NPC missons pay very well and the lairs don't respawn more mobs. Each one has 3-5 npcs tops, and using this method I can clear the mobs in under a minute and take the lair in another minute. =)

I love fanshot. I didn't like the change at first, but after grouping with a couple of TKA's and /fanshotting all the aggro's that clumped all around them to death, I realized that having an AOE attack is really helpful in gaining experience.

Don't need to attack other targets first. Anything (and I mean anything that is within thecone of attack) will aggro on you if alone.
Works great if in a group and you get a melee person to draw the enemies in and stand back and fan shot away.

P.S. the repeat rate of fanshot is much faster so should be higher damage overall.

Not always. I attacked a Stormtrooper and an Imperial Medic earlier today, and I wasn't able to damage them both immediately. I had the Stormie targetted, and the Medic was standing right next to him. I could see in my Combat Spam that it claimed I was hitting the Medic (and I could see the damage numbers over his head), but when the Medic aggro'd me (I was prone so I got off 3 Fan Shots before he came after me) he still had full HAM bars. The Stormie had taken damage, but the Medic didn't even though my Combat Log said that he did.... quite strange.
Of course, once he aggro'd me and I shot a couple more Fan Shots he was down in no time flat

Kaern, that is exactly what I find most of the time: that unless you tag a mob with another shot first, fanshot will only damage the creature you are targeting. Otherwise, it just claims that you've hit but does no damage. Buggy...
This has been a very informative little thread, thanks everyone.

I've also noticed that both imperial and rebel npc medics are able to heal themselves much more quickly than a player medic. So that may have been what was going on there. Just a thought

I don't think that's it. I have noticed the EXACT same behavior when using fanshot on creature MOB's. I will test this theory of doing a bodyshot first tonite. WOOHOOO!!!
