Thread: Health Shot 2 vs. Last Ditch

If what I've read is correct, then...

  • Health Shot 2 has a damage multiplier of 3.0. It is the highest-damage, pool-specific pistol-based special.

  • Last Ditch has a damage multiplier of 6.0. It is the highest-damage, random-pool pistol-based special.

I read in another post that random-pool hits have a 3-2-1 ration for hitting H, A and M. That is, for every 6 random-pool shots fired, 3 will hit Health and 3 will not (2 will hit Action and 1 will hit mind).

Very generally then, these two attacks seem the same to me in terms of damage to the Health pool. Am I correct with this generalization? (Ignore other reasons to choose one over the other including bleeds, stun, etc.)

Since you're hitting Health only half the time with Last Ditch, it's more likely that you'll hit the maximum damage value your weapon is capable of less frequently than with HS2, which you're most likely to spam continuously against Health. With a lucky hit, Last Ditch WILL do more damage against Health than HS2. But with hitting Health only half as often as HS2, you're less likely to see a x6 Damage multiplier on 300 max damage than you would be with HS2.

If we are ignoring all other factors and just comparing damage to the HEALTH pool only then I'd say thats a fair generalization

Maybe someone should start sending me PMs so you dont know anything about it.

Although if you check the SOEdefinition of troll we are nothing like it.

Giving good advice and information and answers to questions would make us:

What else is there to compare it against? The stun state? Random pool has it's uses, but when you're fighting an opponent and you get them down to 200/3000 health, and you need one more shot to kill them, and your random pool decides to hit action 2 times in a row, it's frustrating.

I'm a big user of Last Ditch myself, however in this case I would go with Health Shot 2 myself. Comparing the two only from damage output and hitting the HAM, then I think the 3-2-1 ratio is found in a larger scale than just 6 shots. I've found on 10k HAM creatures that the ratio is more like 3-3-0 or 4-2-0 this is how the bars are most often.

Anyway I really don't feel that the two shots should be compared as I see them as complimentary of eachother. It's just about what tactics you are using. The reason I prefer Last Ditch is the damage multiplier and combined with Low Blow the damage is awsome and most often the two shots I can get in while the Low Blow is in effect, is on health. Another reason for my choise of Last Ditch is that I most often fight alongside other professions and pool specific attacks are usually not that important.

Hey guys!

I am Master Smuggler and master Pistoleer for some time now. But even though everyone keeps telling me how cool Last Ditch is I can't see how it (or any special) is any better then Health Shot 2.

I know it ain't stylish maybe, but I seem to take down mobs much faster when spamming Health Shot 2 (because it all goes to Health pool) then Last Ditch.

Is it just me or am I missing something?

From what I recall Last Ditch would be slower than healthshot2without Bounty Hunter speed or speed tapes. I can take out most DantooineNPC'sin two shots with my DE-10 and Last Ditch.
