Thread: Question about Fanshot

First off, I hit Master Pistoleer today so I'm pretty happy about that. Anyways my real question is: Is Fanshot just an improved version of Double Tap? I'm assuming so because in the description of Double Tap states someting along the line of; this skill lets you shoot twice and takes of a bit more than the normal /attack. However Fanshot's description says something like; this skill shoots multiple blasts out of your pistol. So I'm assuming Fanshot is an improved version of Double Tap because it shoots more than two shots. Am I correct correspondent?

YES!

Damage is higher. Actually from talking to another (I only have doubletap), it seems that fanshot damage is more 'reliable" and in a tighter range.

Because with my scout and doubletap I've hit from 250 to 850 damage.

Ok well i seem to be reading posts about people saying how they just get 5 or 6 creatures to spwn from a lair then use fanshot to hit them all at once? Well i don't know if it is just me but when i use fanshot it only seems to hit one target mutiple times, not multiple targets one time......so i am just seeing what fanshot actually does, or is suppose to do? Because atm i find spamming healthshot2 the most effective way of taking down a target.

The AE from fanshot only damages monsters that are actually in combat. For example, when you see abunch of quenkers sitting arounda lair and use fanshot, the one you targeted will get damaged, but the the others will just get aggroed. After the other quenkers are aggroed, the AE from fanshot will damage them.

If fanshot is hitting one target multiple times, it might also be the AE corpse bug, where if there are any corpses in AE of the shot, the game will calculate damage for all the corpses, but all the damage will be applied to one target.

This can result in 20k damage shots in the Geonosian cave.

You must have all your creatures/npc targets in one line of sight to succesfully use it. If they surround you it is useless

Fanshot is a cone effect. It starts at where you are standing, and branches out at about a 20º angle, maybe 25º. All targets in the cone take damage.

At least, in theory. There is a bug. It only damages targets that are currently engaged in combat, but it agros everything in the cone. In practice, the first shot damages the primary target, and everybody else agros you. The second shot works as intended.

The AoE corpse bug was recently fixed, according to the developers and several players who tested it.

What was happening was Fanshot would try to damage corpses in the cone, and when it couldn't, it would pile the damage onto the primary target.

The line of sight bug is fixed now as well, as I report in this thread.

If you are still experiencing either issue, let me know with as much detail as possible.

I know that theres been lots of talk about fan shot only damaging targets that are arggo. I have notice that even though fanshot hits a target and no floaty damage (numbers overhead) shows up, the target still takes damage. I confirmed this by sneaking up on a lair of quenkers tapping the lair until a lot of them spawn.....run away until I lose arggo.....go back and sneak up on them again.....and start off with fanshot....I hit the targeted enemy and got floaty damage and the rest did not show floaty damage......but when I switched my target to one of the others that didn't have floaty damage, they had their HAM bars decreased.......all of them were like this when I cycled through the targets. Some said *arm hit*, *head hit*...etc. but no floaty damage, but all enemies took damage.

This could be the misconception that targets don't take damage when you don't see floaty damage over head. I thought so to until I did this little test a few times.

Also to note, I used a dx2 at 64 meters (get this, I could actually attack from 66 and 65meters also, must be a bug). Anyway, fanshot is a special thats hard to actually pinpoint whether it is hitting right since it's often difficult to track every hit from the shots.

Anyway, I have no problems with fanshot at all....in fact it's the best tool for taking out a whole lair providing your attacking a liar that you can take out fairly easily and not have trouble taking out one target...because then they will just flank you and won't be in your cone range to take the hits from fanshot.....then you need to maneuver to keep them in the cone area. Pickets on dantooine are infamous for flanking you and since they are fairly fast, its hard to manuever to get them in the cone area....they seem to stick to your flanks (sides) when you run or move......I hate them suckers....hehe
