Guys, I have to ask...why does everyone love fan shot and stopping shot so much? I've been doing some tests with fan shot, BS1, BS2, BS3, HS1, and HS2 on giant baz nitchs and it seems like HS2 trumps all other special with damage output, and it hits a single pool.
So why do you use fanshot, stopping shot, or "place other special here" when HS2 kicks so much arse?

Ummm.....well I shoot pickets Health shot 2 does around 600 damage, Fan shot does 800 damage and Stopping Shot does around 1300+ damage and they all fire at the speed cap.

OK, they hit harder, but...
I do 700-900 with HS2, all hitting the body
900-1300 with SS, only hitting the body 50% of the time.
What good is the increased damage, if 50% of the time you aren't hitting the same stat pool? Maybe in PVP where 3 shots makes a difference I can see the benefit, but when you have to fire off 20 shots to kill something....I'd rather they all hit the same stat pool.
I was just wondering if there was any other reason than "they hit harder" that people use them.

I agree, I thought BodyShot 3 would be better, but HS2 seems to be the best. I tried SS and Last Ditch, but they are way to random. I have also noticed that it appears SS does not hit the other pools as much as Last Ditch does, but maybe its just me.
While we are on the subject of Fan Shot, does anybody know for sure if Fan Shot is supposed to be anAoE?From the description it sounds like it is not supposed to be an AoE but as of now it is an AoE. Just curious if the description is wrong or if the shot is not working the way it is supposed to be.

I'm pretty sure that Fan shot is supposed to be AoE, although I don't use it enough to know for sure.

nice pun,
anyway, for single targets, yes, hs2 rules, stoppingshot isn't at the speed cap , for me anyway, and is random ham
hs2 is good for up to 3 targets depending, sometimes i will cycle through a group of enemies and hit them with it to stack the bleed, albeit weak with the other damage i do.
for more than 2/3 enemies at a time, definitly fanshot, especialy npc's. they generally stay at range, are easy to cone, and don't encirlce you to do melee attacks
fanshot is also fast and high(relativly) damage.
for lairs, i use kip-up shot

Because last night I went to the Imp outpost on Lok and took out almost 15 Imps at roughly the same time with Fanshot.
Right now at 68 speed I use HS1 mostly even though HS2 slightly outdamages it. When I get 74 speed HS1 and 2 will fire at almost the same rate with a 2.2 spd gun or lower and HS2 will definitely be used the most against single targets.

Fan is AOE. 1 on 1 HS2 is our only special. If there is more than one aggro out comes the fanshot to punish multiple targets at once.
Testing on Giant Baz's can be a little misleading as to the usefulness of fan as they only spawn 2 to a wave. Try it against a purbole lair if you like to hunt on Dath, or some Malkoks. You will find you clear the lair much faster using only fan than you will using only HS2.
I have no idea why folks use stopping shot tho. I find it slow and underpowered m'self.

I have been doing some testing with our specials, and while Stopping shot does do a considerable amount of damage, its greatest flaw is that it hits random HAM bars. Body Shot3 is flawed right now as most people have noted it does less damage than Body Shot 2 and Health Shot 2. I use a combo generaly of Health Shot's and Body Shot, and depending on the target I am using either a DX2, Modified Republic, or Feather wieght. Typicaly I am finding that I am ending a combat much quicker than by spamming Stopping Shot.
As far as Fan Shot goes, it does have a AOE, however, I have noticed that you need to be at least 30m away from your targets, and they need to be relativly close to each other, if you are engaged in with a brawler type, or the targets are spread to far out, then Fan Shot will not work. I have used that to great affect in missions like the Corvette, and the Weapons research facility, where you are in close quarters and your targets are forced to be grouped. The only draw back to Fan Shot that I have seen is that it will attack EVER THING! Even targets that you don't want to go after. I made the mistake on one of the Theme Parks. My contact was surrounded by Storm Troopers so I just started Fan Shooting, unfortunatly it also hit my contact and he went agro against me. Needless to say I had to do that one over again.

I think Tirsen has it right. Hereare some typical situations that I use these specials for . If I decide to grind money on lok because of the lag on dantooine or the healing craze the rancors seem to be on, I typically go right for 18k nym missions. If I want to kill every thing, I typically will use fan shot from about 45meters with my scout or fwg as it seems to do nicely on multiple targets. If I decide to hit one target it is hs2 all the way. If Im just hitting the layer, its SS. Sometimes I run wide circles around the layer for fun spamming fan shot and eventually everything dies its funny..
If Im with a couple of melee buddies I like to use PMD2 to feel a part of the melee crowd that I do miss sometimes. One cool thing about pistols is that you do get a lot of options. Now if the specials were all working as intended it would even be funner..

Morath hit hte nail on the head. HS2 for individual targets, Fan Shot for groups, and SS for lairs although I still use FS on lairs cuz it still causes substantial damage. I do find myself swithing to HS2 3/4 of the way through a spawn just to make things go a bit quicker.
As for melee I generally only use PMD1 as it seems PMD2 doesn't work as well. . .
Other than testingI never use BodyShot, Point Blank, or what is hte master special, Multiple Target Shot or somthing like that.
Overall I like pistoleer regardless of what others seem to think. You just need to adapt more and use what we have.

PMD2 doesn't knock down, but does it do more damage than PMD1?
Also, with the PMD's, does damage depend on your gun, and does it do the same damage type as your gun, or kinetic?

fanshot for faction farming. Stand 50 meters away and let rip. Base NPCs are taken out in a couple of minutes.
TKM for everything else..... Sorry this isn' the TKM forum
Healthshot2 and bodyshot 2 with amix of smuggler for stun effects and knockdowns. Oh and PvP those random pool shots hit the mind
