Thread: Status Update (11/8/03)
1) FWG NERF: The FWG5 IS being nerfed -- the power handler is being removed from its schematic. Three other weapons (including the Scatter Pistol and Launcher Pistol) have also been nerfed, but the Devs are supposedly increasing the base damage of the FWG5 so the average non-loot weapon shouldn't be much worse. You will NOT be able to use Krayt tissues in the FWG5 any more, but the Devs claim that they're adding a feed mechanism that is equally as good.
2) INSURANCE: Thunderheart made an important post about the new "decay on death" penalty. Weapons will NOT decay on death, and neither will resources (which is good for our crafter friends). You won't need to (or be able to) insure either one. Clothing, Armor, Tools, Jewelry are insurable and will decay small amounts on death. The penalty is NO decay for incapacitation, 1% decay on death if you are insured, and 5% decay on death with no insurance.
3) COMMUNICATION WITH THE DEVS: I have written the State of the Profession Report, which Thunderheart asked me to write ASAP. He says that he will come to each forum and respond to the information in those Reports sometime next week. He also posted a "questions" thread on Correspondent forums and promised to answer those questions this weekend ... I asked about the FWG5 (which is now answered), FanShot, getting TestCenter access, broken specials, and speed. I also sent a PM to the combat designer myself (which I'm allowed to do) to get faster results, and it looks like I might be able to get some time to talk to him sometime soon.
4) TESTING DEFENSES ON TEST CENTER: I have PMed Vass, PMed Thunderheart, and posted in Correspondent Forums to get Correspondent access on Test Center so I can test the new defense mods. Still no access yet. I'll keep trying and I'll let you know when I am able to start testing.
5) FAN SHOT NERF: In case you haven't heard, FanShot has been nerfed -- the AOE attack has been removed on Test Center. As I mentioned above, I have brought this issue to Thunderheart's attention. I'll also go on TestCenter to test this as soon as I have access.
Like I said in my last update, I think that the Devs are making a big effort to improve the Correspondent program and to listen to our views. Nonetheless I get the distinct impression that our profession is very low on their list of priorities, so I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. I'll keep doing whatever I can to make sure our voice is heard.

Did I read somewhere that Multi-Target Pistol Shot will recieve the AOE attack that Fan Shot currently has, and that Fan Shot will become an upgraded Double Tap? This seems to stay true to the descriptions of both shots, and I would actually rather see this, as it gives the Masters something to appreciate.
Terrific! I think the reason we are a low priority is that by and large, the player base hates us and thinks we are overpowered. This is probably because of the BH/Smuggler "dabblability," and I think should be priority if we ever hope to become a viable stand-alone profession.
I hate to nerf the dabblers, but it is killing the "purists." We can never be strong, because that would make the dabblersgodly. So we remain unfixed.
The danger of this is people thinking "look at the pistoleers, they want the power for themselves." We must be cautious.
I think was just an idea that someone threw out on the forums ... nothing I've heard from the Devs suggests that this is happening. When I'm able to test it out on TestCenter, I'll let you know.

Of course, if we could be fixed without causing a huge imbalance to dabblers... that would be ideal.
I think a big reason there is so much dabbling is because our tree is so broken on its own. Once it's fixed, a lot of people won't feel the need to pick up another profession just so they can use a pistol well.

Whats wrong with dabblers?
Thats the reason they made "branches" in the skill trees....So there wouldn't be so many of the same characters.
I don't know about you, but kind of sucked back in UO when EVERYONE was a healer/mage.
They don't want everyone to have the same skills. You have the choice to take ANY skills you want. If a dabbler beats you in a duel....theres NOTHING stoping you from taking his exact same skill template.
I'm only taking 11 boxes in the pistoleer tree because thats all I wanted.
i agree with the last poster..
i picked up a pistol to become viable in pvp because as we all know tka are cannon fodder in the open..
i also picked up smuggler dirty fighting for the specials
there is nothing wrong with tailoring the character you want.. and now that mounts are coming im dropping scout for slicing so i can make some extra coin
dont dis people because they are using the rules of the game to better themselves
where i agree pistoleer is broken i will still master it because i know one day it will be fixed
alot of pistoleers are grabbing novice bh for the scatter pistol cert which in my opinion is in the wrong profession to begin with
it is in my deepest hopes that the devs either transfer the scatter pistol to pistoleer orrrrrr give us something that does just as much damage because im tellin ya scatter pistol is the best weapon in the game for small arms fire
Thanks for the update Phil.
Was there any mention of fixing and upgrading the DX2 or adding any new pistols in the pistoleer tree? If not - that's something we should push hard for as well. It'd be nice for the pistoleer pistol to be worth a **edit**.
Keep up the good work!
<clap for Philosopher> I hope you keep up your good work, every day when i come here b4i log on starsider i always find new Info,
Just a simple question, I am one of the people who belive, Master the Stuff now, then when they finally fix it your set and can have fun for a week b4 all the dabb's catch up ![]()
If they would really nerf fanshot... does that mean we have to all go back to bodyshot2? i mean isn't that just about the only other move that work's? i am 0-4-4-4 in pistoleer tree atm "as soon as i finish crafting the rest of my med's and i can drop master Doc, and become full combat once again
"
I am trying to find if they are going to at least fix bodyshot3, i would like to use that move in PvP see how good it would effect people, so sick of haven to spam the same move.... i put my bleed's i pistlwhip them 1 stoppingshot when there on the group then just fanshot... but its FUN ![]()
any word on why the description of PistolMeleeDefense2 says its stronger than PistolMeleeDefense2?
lol that really dont matter. just thought id post something
