Well, I'm glad my instincts are good on all the weapons issue. I beta tested JTL, but I think yesterday was when I first started to understand how to make my ships work. Hopefully soon I can understand more about how to fly in general. I've been a 4333 pilot for months now 'cuz I didn't enjoy flying. Yesterday I discovered that my gear was so crappy that I was working with Tier 2 speed and firepower. No wonder it was no fun. After tricking out my TIEs and JSF with decent Mark III and Mark IV gear, I'm having an amazing time in space again. The FAQ here has also really helped me understand my equipment.

I bought a bunch of Mark IV proton gear thinking that I was certed... I'll just save it for PvE in my decimator.

I bet Teamspeak or Ventrillo is a must when running a decimator crew. That'll exclude the dialup folks in our crew lol.

Its possible to get a well organized crew without Ventrillo. My perfered method is to have the pilot (or Co-pilot since he'll have more time) with novice Squad Leader and colored /system messages aliased. A couple of preset toolbars with nice good color codes, and lots of practice, and your crew should be just as effectived as a well practiced Ventrillo crew.

I've gone in with TS and with just me speed typing, and a couple occassions with a mix. Its just a matter of being fast on the keyboard and terse and to the point with your messages.

If your intentions are PvE, definately both as Null Bolt. If your intentions are PvP, I'd actually recommend both being Gauss cannons. The bonus to shields is extremely powerful, seeing how a vast majority of pilots are willing to sacrifice armor, but not shields, to outfit their ships. Almost 80% of the damage you do to a PvP ship will be to their shields, if not more, so having the highest vsShield on your gun is a must. That's why my Opp runs with a pair of 0.25 level 9 Ions instead of level 9 Blasters.

I see in the FAQthat the Decimator has two turrets and two missles. Who fires the missles? The gunners or the pilot?

P.S. I'm not certed for the Decimator yet... I'm just curious.

Pilot controls the missiles (and none of the guns.)

Thems pilot controlled. And your Deci's gonna have THREE of'em, not two. The YT-1300 is the one with two. Recommed Image Recs for PvP or Spacebomb IIs/Proton IVs for PvE.

You recommend for PvP that I fill all three slots with image recs?

yes... you are definitly going to need the low lock-on time of IR2's in a Deci

If you and others in ISB are out playing in Deep Space and you detect and inbound, Image Recs will lock on and fire fast enough to buy you time to run. A triple shot should be enough to overwhelm their countermeasures and blow through their defenses.

OK... new question... one of my guildmates has one turret with ions and one with disruptors. I'd think that due to the fire arc differences they should both be blasters. Am I on the right track, or should the pilot make up for the fire arc differences?

Go with Blasters, there's virtually no room for coordinating fire, and in a PvE situation, you'll want them free to operate independently. Speed experimented Null Bolts are your best choice. 3000+ damage, about .26 refire.

both should be blasters... the Ion/Disrupter pair thing is questionable anyway and the oppossing fire arcs just makes it rediculous.
