do you get these players on your servers? ive seen several that fly around in b-22's and a-wings without armor and minimal shielding. carry a lvl 2 gun and rely on space bombs to win a fight. and the scary thing is that they say it works on most imps on my server...... i drop 2 chaffs and im blasting them from behind within3 seconds.

Only person I've ever seen flying around with no shielding is Ayanami. And that was only just tonight when she was in her "Flying Gun" (aka, the A-Wing with an RE'd level 10 engine and gun). The other imps got a nice chuckle when I commented that I wanted to send her 3 IR2's, c/o The Dizzy Pilot.

As far as people in "Flying Bombs", haven't said I've seen them. Though, I usually always chaff whenever I see "Incoming Missle". Though, that might explain a few of the people that have seemed to just die when my ship pointed at them.

Dunno. Anyone that has to get to the point of just using missles is a bit sad. I actually feel sorry for them, cause when more people start carrying chaff launchers, they will be way behind in the learning curve as far as actual dogfighting goes. I seem to learn a lot from the little PvP sessions we have in Deep Space every Sunday night. Tonights was over 5 hours of it, mainly just 6 people, 3 rebel, 3 imp. And all of them were very good, so I learned a ton. Only time I used a missle (ok...there was a 2nd time, but that one I didn't know actually went off until I had finished respawning ) was on a rebel that joined in for a cycle or two. Apparently, he thought a completely disabled Oppressor was deserving of a missle instead of a gunshot to kill. Needless to say, the rebel group didn't warn him that I always pack a trio of IR2 launchers and got quite a laugh out of it.

Ahh. Thanks. I tried to get it all to fit. It does on mine, but I guess not everyone runs at 1600x1200. Thanks for the headsup.

And what was up with you and that VT out there? Just messing around on your little breaks from RL? We freaked out when we saw you.

Yeah, I don't run 1600x1200. I run 1920x1200

I brought up a non-ace guildy to watch the fight in the Decimator. I am visitng family now, so no stick, which is why I didn't fight. I was suprised I even had internet access tonight, there wasn't any last time I was here.

EDIT - I feel like I should post something On-Topic:

I always thought putting a L10 Engine, a pre-nerf spacebomb launcher, and some sort of shield (and maybe a L1 laser just to scare people )in a TIE Advanced would be great fun. But I've never done it or seen anyone do it on our server.

Really good fights tonight! Ayanami's ships still scare me, shooting at her JSF all I had on the screen was the green crosshairs, her ship was so fast.

Back on topic - fly whatever gets you kills. Really the only things widely regarded as cheap tactics are the RGT and Epulse3. If people are getting hit by missiles (did you say spacebombs, of all things?) they deserve to die.

There is some art to using missiles - namely lining up the shot and launching close enough that the target ship doesn't have time to react.

Eh. In the end, if it works have fun. Or have fun and try new stuff even if it doesn't work.

The only way to consistently take down certain pilots is with missile barrages. Considering how much havok they can wreak in the many minutes it can take to kill a really skilled pilot, I don't see anything cheap or dishonorable about missiles. Even basic chaff takes care of them really well, and if you get tagged, it's more than possible to go evasive until you shunt all your shields back. Probably wise to keep a finger firmly planted on the chaff button in the meantime, too.

Against the RGI missiles are actually the only way to win the fight. I lately fought against one, two proton III disabled the thing... i then used the opportunity to "test" the hitbox by using guns on the target, i really don't want to be forced to fight that thing guns-only when most of the hits on it actually don't do anything at all.

I agree with that completely. Missles are *extremely* devastating in pvp, which is why most of us tend to stay away from them in our little Deep Space parties.

I think what most of us are saying is missles don't teach you dogfighting skills. And if you run out of missles while surrounded by hostiles, I sure hope you know how to dodge for 45 seconds while your hyperdrive powers up.

Man, last night was... well.. I felt like my eyes were going to pop out of my head.. Twisting, sliding, shooting, exploding.... 4+ hours worth took it's toll.. I had such a headache when I logged off. But I had a blast!!! I think there was less then 10 missles fired the whole evening to. I shot off 2 when I was up in the Ywing. But that was it. I think Hol shot 1 or 2. The parts i loved the best were the ones where I went charging in by myself against you 3. Suicide runs for the win lol

And yeah, Ayanami's Awing, is a bullet with wings. I had thought about doing that with mine, but never got around to it. I have done it with a Interceptor. Had a lvl 10 engine... but with only 50k mass was only able to get a lvl 4 reward gun in there. So I switched to a lvl 8 engine and i now have a lvl 7 reward gun in it. but still no shields. It's fun, but you gotta dance like no other.

As far as running being on topic, i haven't run into anyone who does just this tactic. There are ppl who like to use missles, but for the most part I know who they are and do what I can to keep them from getting a lock.

it happens alot on my server to be honest ive even been killed that way before (never go to the bathroom while you are still in DS) and to be honest i agree that it is a valid tactic i just wish they would try it on a larger ship so they could fall back on a nice engine or gun incase they didn't hit me.

I must agree. As one who flies a ship where even a single IR Mk II would cause me no end of heartache, it cannot be denied that it is a valid tactic and..well it does take some skill to lock on a missile. Try locking on mk III protons onto a fast moving dodging target...it isn't easy.

However, A-wings have no place being missile boats because er..I said so. In fact. Anyone who outfits an A-wing as a missile boat is seriously missing out on what that ship can do for starters since the small gun in pvp won't be good enough vs. a well equipped JSF for example and imagine then running out of missiles and facing an RG TIE?! Even if they did achieve a hit, it'd do little damage and then they'd have to spend half an hour trying to get another valid hit which'd do next to nothing.
