Thread: Character transfer service...what can you take with you?

I don't care about the money I have or decorations. But I do treasure my pre-nerf Level 6 reward engines, my Quantum Ion Drive (almost ready to RE) and my PvP setups in my favorite fighters.

I also don't care about the ground game.

I'm thinking about making the jump to Starsider. Has anyone done the character transfer with items? How many items can you take?

Bugs. Lots and lots of bugs. Ask Rapax.

But didn't Leaph also transfer and have a great experience of it?

As I understand it, Leaph is much less likely to encounter the bugs than Rapax is. Rapax changes squadrons like the rest of us change clothes. A different day, a different ship, that seems to be his motto.

Hmm... I'd like to bring over enough stuff to fill my backpack and my inventory.

What kind of bugs? Missing chasses and components? Changed stats?

Yup. Though so far I havn't tried to up my combat level and I'm not dropping my pilot profession again. Six times is enough for me. Coran..COME TO SS!!!!

Thing with me though is that a lot of the bugs don't affect me too much because I am far too happy to just keep my toon at the same level on the ground and roleplay. When I'm not roleplaying or having an in depth debate with someone on why they should dump their Heavy X-wing for an A-wing (my current favourite pastime simply for the reason it annoys the -hell- out of people ) I'm parts farming or pvp'ing. While I've been on SS, with the good pvp scene and events going on, I've been concentrating on getting as good as I possibly can with my A-wing. I guess all the 'content' I'm making use of at the moment is self invented..i.e, my personal quest with the kitting out to the 'max' A-wing. I mean, it took a long time and I admit turned me into a complete A-wing geekazoid , but ..it was worth it. No game has been so versatile that I've been able to do somthing like that before. On top of this, when I havn't anything specific to do, I'll make use of my 'four system sweep protocol'. This is basically, if noone wants to go to DS with me or anything, I'll go an declare at my nearestAlliance station and will choose four randomly selected starsystems to patrol. If I see any overts, I'll engage them if I know them or if they look like they're out for the same thing, but I'll try andtrack them for a while first to see if they do notice me (if they're spamming z they would). If they don't and appear to be an inexperienced pilot whohas declared without thinking it through properly...I'll just move on.While I'm doing this, I'll always visit Kessel a few times to see if there is a vette group/person who'd like help and if they do, I'll help out on that.My last stop will always be DS soI can just give it a quick sweep and so that my overloads and damage will be reset before I land.

Bugwise though, I guess the next best thing they could do which'd affect me in a positive way would be to fix the RG TIE hitbox and fix the WO3 bug.

Oh but Coran, as for missing items etc and changed stats..noway. Not even my pre-nerf stuff got affected. I advise you to dump any crafted gear you have because I am fairly sure SS tops the market for crafted comodoties like ordnance and simply fill your inventory with the irreplaceable /hard to acquire parts you have. Then in a backpack you're wearing, fill that up too. In the end I had in the excess of 100+ awesome parts which came with me to SS.

Oh also...DEED YOUR SHIPS. -ALL- your starships need to be as deeds in your inventory along with the parts you had on them since datapad items do not transfer. The actual transfer services is easy as pie to follow and when you're truly ready to move it'll take 10 minutes tops. I was real paranoid before moving (I let Rapax do it first as a test subject ) andvisited my parts houses about 5 times each just to make sure I hadn't left anything behind.

In fact, the only bad thing about moving serveris that you have to find the commands for your flight computer andAstromechs all over again since they cannot be redeeded and therefor unable to transfer. So basically, as long as you're very thorough with your toon's status before you actually go to transfer...it'll work fine. Even my clothes transferred.

My transfer to Starsider with items went extremely well. Here is a copy of an earlier post I did on my steps and results:

I transferred my main to Starsider last night with items and figured I would share my experiences and methods for some things. In short, it all went extremely well. I’m not sure if it went well because of my methods or not. But I’ll share them just in case since they really aren’t that difficult.

First, a little background: I just reactivated my account and so had respecs available and also all my armor had the ‘refit’ option. This refit option may be critical to avoiding a problem someone else had. I also had a second account (I’m actually consolidating all my toons to a single account) that I used to hold all non-transferable items. This was done ‘just in case’ something went tragically wrong. You could also use a trusted friend for the same thing.

Steps to prepare:

  • Determine name on new server. If your name is not taken, you will have a complete name transfer over whether you still want that name or not. As previously mentioned, just try to add folks to your friends list like starsider.myname.

  • Make sure you do not currently have a character on that server

  • Make sure you have a slot available to create a new character.

  • Remove all items from the safe deposit box

  • Get rid of all cash and bank money

  • Remove all factory crates and resources from inventory (avoid errors before setting out)

  • Make sure no structures are placed. (avoid errors before setting out)

  • Move all items from ‘organization’ bags to the flat inventory. The only items in a bag should be in your equipped backpack. There should be nothing in bags within the backpack either. (done to help the system see your inventory better)

  • Remove all clothes (will happen anyway during transfer). An equipped weapon is OK

  • Have at least 5 inventory slots available during transfer

  • Wait at least 30 to 60 minutes from last log out before requesting the transfer. (lets all database transactions complete)

After Transfer:

  • Wait at least 30 minutes after the completion e-mail before logging in. (lets all database transactions complete)

What I found after logging in was that I had 10K cash and all my items as expected except that my equipped armor was unequipped. I was able to convert over my armor with the ‘refit’ option. I did this with both sets of my armor. The durability converted over fine. I did not gain anything since it seemed to do a percentage of durability at the conversion. Also, I was no longer asked about using a free respect.

Intresting. Most of what you say, i didnt do. Simply because sony's instructions on what we could, or could not bring with us, and overall proceedure on the transfer is extremly vauge. Did sony improve their instructions some, or is this things you gleaned from your own knowledge?

For instance, i didnt clean out my bank, houses, or remove my clothes.

When i transfered, my clothes were still on infact. Right down to an Imperial hat and i was on leave at the time.

What i did do is load up an equiped backpack completely, then loaded myself down with every vet reward item and ship parts and chassis i wanted to save. I left myself 1 iventory slot when i moved, which took all of 10 mins at best. When i came into valcyn, that slot was quickly eaten up by another CU plaque, which i deleted because i was over my item limit at that point. Another thing is credit chips did transfer. A did move a 200K credit chip with me.

And damn you coran, its like everyone here is going to SS, figures since i lag like a mo'fo there. Me spending another 50 dollars isnt likely to happen anytime soon, im still a bit.... peeved.

It does appear to be the place to be. Not that I'm going there. I expect that I'd be killed by the Bloodfin pilots if I went to Starsider. They seem to want me over there quite badly, for some reason I cannot fathom.

If i ever move to starsider...

and i might... im just giving the game a month to see how i feel about it later. But as much fun as it sounds like it could be, im just too upset with sony and feed up wtih the game right now.

But if i do..

Im gonig to save up a big fat honking credit chip. Ive already looted a BS ace helmet, if i can sell that for 10+ mill im set.

Then ill go smugglers alliance, and flip flop factions more then i do squadrons. Keep ppl guessing as to who's side im on.

Most of the steps were just expanded from what SOE made and some stuff I figured would help. The huge things I contribute in on my steps are to 1) avoid errors by clearing out 'unauthorized' items and to let the database synch. Some of this comes from my background in coding. But, odds are that every time the process finds something unauthorized, the code will fork for a while to deal with it (delete, etc.). You want to avoid those forks. Something as simple as having any credits on your character makes the program go to another section to delete them out. You want to avoid going to the forks since they are the ones less likely to have been as thoroughly tested. The same thing is true if you have items in bags etc. The database is also a very tricky thing. My understanding from discussions with a long time corrospondent was that almost all the limitations and problems withSWG are actually database related. It is also something I have seen in other games. The database and it's responsiveness are responsible for huge problems (when they occur). EVERYTHING is stored in the database that isn't on your workstation (basicly your macros,screen/icon settings and other things in the options area). Giving that database a little extra time to make sure it has all your stuff before you leave and a little extra time to make sure it got to the destination is probably a waste of time. But, I would rather waste an hour than spend the many more hours it took to get the items in the first place. And, experience with SWG has encouraged caution.
