Thread: New Pilots not up to snuff?
yup, you spoiled them. Start letting them learn on their own. unlike the rest of the game, jtl actually takes player skill, not toon skill to play. If i didn't do it on my own, i still be trying to figure out how to take teir 3 as a master pilot. yicks!!
Teir 4 skills is the only time real yt grinding should be needed, the rest of the the of the grind really does help in learning the needed skills to be a good pilot. i'm not great, but i now how to blow up a ship or two
I generally sucked as a pilot whenI first started, hellI needed help on my first ecsort beacsueI kept getting to far away from the Freighter while trying to kill the attacking fighters. I pretty much gave up but curiosity kept getign the better of me and with the help of a great pilot from my guild Ive gotten allot better. Ive soloed up to my first tier 4 mission for Havok Squadron (granted the easiest, but still an accomlpishment for me).
Heres what I think...You stated that your guild was more JTL oriented wich probably means you and the group of friends have probably played some type of game like this before (the flight simulator portion) where as your new recruits may not have done any of this before. So now you have these new players who may have never played a flight game before (I didn't) and who alos new to a very large game and it could all be a bit overwhleming. Sure there is always those who will spam you w questiosn instead of taking two minutes to figure it out.For the restjust becasue they arent the pilot you are doesnt meen they aren't "up to snuff"
patience young one ![]()
Remember what we were all like when JTL first came out? I remember spending a day or 2 before i noticed the travel button on starship terminals, i remember looking and all the component stats and having no clue what the numbers were.
With the new releases (rotw and total experience) there are alot of new pilots which is good. maybe one day we'll find lots of people in deep space for pvp ![]()
There is alot of information in JTL to absorb, as well as that being a good pilot takes alot of time, practice and experience.
Just give them time and keep helping them with advice and help on hard missions (Imp storm squadron is very difficult for new pilots to solo at every tier)
I'm not a new pilot, but I have been on hiatus for a while.
I'm 3322 in the Imperial Inquisition, and I'm pretty much stuck there because no matter how many times I try I just can't take down the Rebel gunboat at the end of my current mission. It destroys me each time.
But I agree with respect to the first two tiers. They are relatively easily done and anyone needing their hand held for these needs some solo-time to straighten out their piloting skills.

Wow, glad I'm not in your "uber" guild. What a horrible attitude for training. Did you ever take the time to EXPLAIN the difference between Hyperspace travel and Travel button to your lost guildmate? Didn't think so. Did you ever take the time to EXPLAIN to your Tier 2 pilots struggling with their missions about upgrading their ships and equipment and about droid commands? Nope, didn't think so. You should start taking responsiblity for the lack of training your pilots have, sounds like you just don't try hard enough to explain at THEIR speed and level, not yours. Space is really very complex with a lot of things to learn about very quickly. With an attitude of "shut up and figure it out yourself, you suck" it's no wonder you're finding your younger pilots are struggling.
"WOOOOO! 6000 CREDITS!"
Then go on to complain here about how everything's too heavy and how they need more mass on their ships, adopting a "well, sucked to be you, then" attitude when we tell them how it USED to be before they decided to strap in and have someone tow them up their tiers.

Try being more selective before you let them in your guild and are semi-obligated to help them. As for xp runs in the MP ship, save that for when it is meaningful, and let them play out tier1 and the first box of tier2 on their own. Tell them about newbie space quests in Tatooine, tell them about Station missions, make sure their gear is up to snuff and send them on thier way. If they come back and say they can't do it, they need your help, there is something seriously wrong.
Take them on an XP run to cap tier2(maybe). Take them on an xp run again if they need some after tier3 to get the first tier4 box. Make sure they're piloting at least some of the grind time on their own, or you have no one to blame for them being not up to snuff except yourself.
