I know it stands for reverse engineering. Now I could swear that I read somewhere that you can do some "re" on looted parts? Exactly what are you guys talking about? Do you mean that I can take a part I looted and bring it to a shipwright to make it better? Please can sum 1 explain this to me like i'm a 4 year old? Thanks.

Ok I read that post and i'm still a bit confused. Example: I can take 2 lvl 10 weapons to a shipwright (if their both the same re lvl?) and he can combine them to take the best of both weapons and make them 1 weapon? Did I get it right?

The best people that can answer these questions are shipwrights themselves on their forums. BUT, for a specific answer: If your level 10 says its a level 10 RE in the descreption, then you need to bring 10 level 10's to a shipwright to RE.

If it says RE level 5, you need 5 components, RE level 6 = 6 components. It's not 10 components across the board.

The number of components required to Reverse Engineer a component is equal to the Reverse Engineering Level of that component. All the components used in the Reverse Engineering Process must be the same Reverse Engineering Level; be careful, because the Reverse Engineering Level does not always match the Component Level. When the components are combined in the Reverse Engineering Process, the best stats out of all the components are used in the new component. Therefore, it's usually a good idea to find components that may have great mass or recharge or damage or whatever, but are weak in other areas, and then find another component to strengthen that area. It takes time and patience, but it's worth it in the end.

Actually, oddly enough, you get some of the best RE discussion threads on Pilot, rather than on Shipwright. Though, after watching some of these threads develope on the ShipWright forum, I think it's because they often see Reverse Engineering as Competing with them, whereas Pilots run a more practical test and, overall, seem less concerned with where the component came from as opposed to what it can do In a Particular Situation. I suppose this makes us relativists, and would make Them absolutists. How simple that would be, if only So many of "US" were not also ShipWrights, and Vice Versa. But, which do YOU see yourself as, first and foremost? Though I have a Master ShipWright Alt (who is also a Pilot), I see myself as a Pilot first, with SW serving a purely selfish, supporting role.

If you ask me, the fact that level 10 parts need 10 parts to be REed is more of a blessing. You can get MUCH better components in the long run this way, because you have a bigger pool to pull from during the RE.
