How can you guys stand looking for these? I look on the bazaar, trying to find the best deal for the lowest mass and best stats....both on the general auction and the vendorlist....it drives me crazy..with say...composite armor for on the ground battlefront, you simply look for the best price/stats and buy the whole set...you generally dont look for individual pieces...my g/f is having a field day "shopping" for starship stuff...i looked for a few things, but blew a capacitor in my brain-pan....
ahhhh...feel much better now, /endrant....
also, is it better to used looted, looted/re'd, or player made stuff? or does it matter at all..the looted (lvl 6,7) stuff has incredibly high mass...trying to fit this stuff into an interceptor here (49k mass...not nearly enough)

Well, most of us loot all our gear (with the exception of those parts made by our friendly neighborhood Shipwright) in Kessel or Deepspace.
It's only very rarely that I ever hit the bazaar for anything at all these days.
As to what to use player-made v/s looted, it honestly depends on the SW's on your server. I suggest that you find one, have a nice friendly sit-down and compare what he/she can make v/s what you're actually USING. Then, as you farm more and more loot you can just go from there.
Personally at this point I'm using 100% looted (and RE'd) components, but you may prefer it another way.

I usually postall my T 10 9 and sometimes 8 components on the bazaar in the MO after i do a loot run and keep what I need - I find it usually all sells within 24h, and you get 20k per component instead of 10, 9 or 8k, and you're helping other pilots round out their RE requirements for their engines or reactors or shields, or getting them some badass armor for their POB ship, rather than just sending them to chassis dealer oblivion

Most important lesson in equipping a ship:
Don't load based on level, load based on stats.
Put in parts with the stats you need.
One of the stats you need is low mass.
Minimalism. It's the biggest trick we know. Well, it's the biggest trick honest players know *glares at the losers who used KSE hacked parts*
Anyhoo, as for the Loot/RE/Crafted choice, I say mix and match.
Some examples that should help you specifically:
Reactor- use a lvl1 crafted. In a 1gun small ship that will give you all the juice you need for 1k mass.
Key Parts First- load in the engine, gun, and shield you NEED, then make the rest fit around it.
Sounds like you're in tier3, because you mentioned L6-7 parts. You will need a L7 gun and shield at least to help ensure your survival and success on missions. Player crafted versions of these are around 15k each, give or take. Thats 2/3 of your 50k allotment, but its the most important 2/3.
edit- Hehe, you're gonna hate me, but I just deleted a paragraph stating exactly what I'd do for most of the rest of the ship. I'm tired and typed it on autopilot. I think what I've left is a good beginning, and holding your hand for everything means you'd just do what I said without learning why I said it.It's the core of what you need to succeed, but I dont want to lead you through by the nose. Remember minimalism, read a few of the other threads here for info on the subsystems and what makes a "good" part, and you can finish your Interceptor in good shape.

And probably, you shouldn't expect to "spray & pray" in a fight, though you might get lucky.

bunny, was good, funny, i like your advice and sense of humor...
and spray and pray? what's that mean....so i'm a lil naive sometimes....
thanks all for your help, i'd already equipped a sub-par reactor, adequate engines, great shields/guns, low-mass/speed droid interface last night so guess i was on the same page...

Indeed! Nice catch, it's actually from a 'SomethingAwful' editorial concerning the formation of a post apocalyptic biker gang which referenced 'Mad Max'.
You're aware they're currently filming episode 4, 'Fury Road' yes?

Good advice on the reactor. I might have to use that if I ever break down and buy a ship with less than 150k mass...*heart* my Vaksai and Rihkxyrk

spray and pray means just hosing your target with poorly-aimed fire and hoping something hits.....in other words, he means you have to have some aiming skills
