POB Tactics
Some suggestions on how to make your ship survive longer in a firefight.
Speed is your friend.
When engaged, a POB ship should try to keep it's throttle down to it's maximum. This causes the ship to become stable and gives gunners an easier time when shooting at targets. It also causes any ships that are gunning for the POB to loose manouverability because they must also increase their throttle to keep up with the POB if they hope to get in weapons range.
Roll is your friend.
Rolling a ship so that the ship is facing edge wise to a target that your gunner(s) are currently targeting is adventageous. This provides the hostile with the smallest possible profile of the ship thus making it harder to hit. This also puts the hostile ship in the "money lane" allowing both of your gunners the ability to engage the hostile.
Yaw is your friend.
Yawing to perform manouvers while a gunner is engaging a target provides a more stable platform thus increases his chances of scoring a hit.
Pitch is NOT your friend.
Pitching will just cause your gunners to throw up and for the reasons mentioned above. If possible try to get a shipwright to make an engine maxed out on speed, yaw and roll.
Multiple people = multiple tasks.
The pilots job is to provide a stable gun platform for his gunners. If he flies the ship as if it was a fighter, the gunners will have no chance to hit any targets excpet those directly infront of the ship. The pilots secondary role is threat assesment when the co pilot it out of the seat and fixing damage.
The co pilots job is to assess threats and assign targets to the gunners. The co pilot, once all the droid commands are running, has the most keyboard/free time of all the crew, thus is ideal to communicate pertinent data to the rest of the crew. The co pilot's secondary role is to effect repairs to damaged components.
The gunners job is to ensure the survivablity of the ship. Gunners are the only crew members that can actively do something to prevent the damage to the ship. Pilot can try to dodge incoming fire but will probably unsucessfull.

I agree with everything but the max throttle bit. With EO4, I'll pull back to about 65% and gain some maneuverability. I fly mine like a superheavy fighter in PvE, actually tracking and chasing targets. I don't have to be as uberaccurate with mytailing because the gunners can fine tune their accuracy better, I just need to keep it fixed relative to my ship.
My logic here is thus. Do I give them a stable platform to shoot from, or do I give them a stable target to shoot at? Frankly, I find the latter better than the former.
