Thread: My first time in deep space.
I've had ace for about a week now. I've started to collect stuff to RE. Haveing lots of fun.
So I thought what the hell, lets go to deep space and see how I do. I didnt expect do kill anyone. Just wanted to test the waters so to speak.
So I talk to the station and off I go. First target, a rebel space staion. Next, a player! Wow, I thought. Here it comes. I move towards him we are comeing right at eachother. And then bang, Im dead
I think he got me in one hit. I dont even know if I got him too.
I had a blast, my heart was raceing! And I can't wait to go back.
One question tho, is pvp that fast or does my ship just suck? What kind of gear should I aquire to be more up to par in deep space?
And to the guy who got me, all I have to say is, nice ship
Glad to hear you liked it, though. I still get a rush whenever I go up overt.
My first ever PvP was in Kessel personally... I was flying around for practice and was overt of course to get any FP I happened to come across. Well, a named ship came up as my target, and after a second it clicked in my head that this was an overt rebel.... uh oh. I'm by no means any great pilot at all... but I wasn't about to run. I start flyng towards him (he was over 4.5k away) and then make sure my weapons were configured properly. I also did a quick rundown of all I'd read in the PvP guides posted in the Pilot FAQ... especially the part about "jousting". About 2.5k away the pilot in the other ship (a Krayt I think) turned and started flying directly at me. I immediately rememberd that part in the PvP guide where it said if you're doing a head to head run instead of actually maneuvering (sp?) you should start firing before coming into range, cause if you wait for the reticle to light up it's already too late cause of the combined closing speeds... so that's what I did. I was staring at the distance counter and the other pilot just in case he decided to start zig zagging... but no, he flew straight at me. A few seconds before he got to 500m away I started firing and seconds later I flew through the remains of his ship.
Totally fun!
Landing those few hits on a krayt is pretty easy though. If you're serious about PvP get a grievous, JSF, Lizzy or Heavy Scyck. Small, manouverable ships.

Yes and yes...
With an REd level 8 reward shield and MkII or III armor, you might survive the first hit. The trick is to not get hit. Next time fly something smaller like a heavy scyk, B-22, or JSF. A Vaksai or Dunelizard can also work too. Don't fly straight at your opponent, you'll be too easy to hit and/or lock onto with missiles.
Also, read Ducimus' PVP Primer for the Rookie Pilot and Kitten's PVP Tactics Collection if you have not already. They are very good. These are linked to by the Pilot FAQ already.

I would think that, if you stick with the Krayt in PVP, you don't want to get into a turn fight with anyone unless you've got a monstrous engine. But if you've got a fast engine and boosters, trying to force your opponent into a jousting match where your big guns and shields/armor are put to full advantage could be a solid strategy. Equip a Mk II Image-Rec launcher to add even more damage to your arsenal, and you might do okay.
Does a Firespray outperform a krayt in terms of speed/turning? It seems like my krayt is sluggish when recovering from a roll move. But when I was mastering pilot, that necrosis ship was very fast and good at turning.
