I signed up with the trainer on Tattooine and finished her missions. All I'm getting now are "duty" missions that aren't giving me any faction. I'm 2 2 1 1 in training at them moment. Is there somewhere else I need to go to get space missions that give me faction? I went to a rebel outpost and got some missions but only got 7 faction points per mission.

How do I get a better ship? I think I'm qualified for a y-wing, but don't know where to get one.

At this point the only thing you need to do is to get enough xp for your next box. It doesn't matter how you do this (if you have higher level friends you can go hunt with them) but destroy duties are a good way of getting xp.

You are indeed qualified to fly a Y-wing. I'm guessing you are flying the z-95 thatthe trainer gave you. You buy new ships from shipwrights or from other players. You'll either get them as a blueprint, in which case you need to go to a chassis dealer and get a deed, or as a deed outright. Some people skip the Y-wing entirely and wait for the Y-wing longprobe. Others love them. The drawback is that although they can hold a lot of mass they are not as maneverable as the z95 you are used to. The longprobe isn't very maneuverable either but at least it has two guns you can use. The nice thing about the Y-wing is that you can bring a gunner with you.

I highly recommend perusing the Pilot FAQ stickied at the top of the first page.

Get the Heavy Z.

Go Overt.

Go squish Tie Fighters with reckless abandon.

You'll get XP and Faction for every kill and the HeavyZ has upwards of 95,000 mass(if crafted well), so you can get some really nice equipment in it.

Very new to the game not sure how to go overt. I'm pretty sure I'm not at the moment, but last night I was getting shot at by a PC tie fighter.

Instructions for going Overt in space are in the FAQ, just be aware that another overt player can waste you.

I'm one of the proponents for the Y wing. With a good shipwright backing you you can load out some great equipment. Yes, it's a little sluggish by comparison, but the shields and engines and capacitor and such you can place on it make it a worthy trade off in my book. I've done it both ways grinding through Tier 2 with a head hunter and doing it with the Y Wing. I like the Y wing Better. As for faction, if faction is all you're really after use the reb mission terminals on planet. I made Col pretty quick with that and some good credits as well. Also, I second the recommendation on the Pilot FAQ. It is a worthy read.
