Thread: finally tried deepspace PvP.... yikes! (framerate issue
Message Edited by gaarawarr on 06-04-2005 02:44 AM
i know i'm not a great pilot, probably not even considered a good one compared to other aces. i went into deep space knowing i was going to lose against any pilot i met there.
my first encounter started out ok, he came in behind me but was gaining slowly. when i tried to spin around my framerate dropped to around 5-7 fps. needless to say i was dead within a couple seconds. second encounter started out a little better for me. there was a player duking it out with a few rebel npcs right where i spawned in at (different player from the first encounter), at first i don't think he noticed me so i thought i could get the jump on him. as soon as i tried to line up a shot my framerates dropped to 5-7 fps again and i was dead in about 4 seconds tops.
i'm not complaining about getting owned, i'm a fresh ace so as far as space PvP goes i'm as noob as you can get, i expected it. i just want to know how to get playalbe framerates so i can get owned by being out classed rather then by a lack of fps. it seems like the stations weapon fire is causing my framerate to drop but i don't know what setting would help, i can't expirment with it since i'm a sitting duck. i get a solid 30fps everywhere else but in DS i'm lucky to get over 10fps ![]()
P.S. i did have fun though, if i can get this straightened out i could see spending a good bit of time in deepspace ![]()

Deep Space seems to have some stupid bugs that showed up with the CU (and devs, we'd like them fixed or addressed, please
). Right now small fighters get stuck against the Star Destroyer or the station, with millions of guns firing at them, and it kills the framerate. If you can find the offending fighter and blow it up, things get a LOT better.
Also, taking out the ISD or the station resets the zone - if there are too many ship sin the zone reseting it helps. Of course, Freedom Station is also bugged, so you'd have to be rebel or find a rebel to blow the ISD.

This game loads graphics, cities and the like when you encounter them, but once you 'leave' a city (for example) it doesn't 'unload' it, so if you go from theed to coronet, you have both Theed and Coronet loaded and laggin'.
1 gig and a 9800...I have 3/4 a gig and a 9800...I've always had smooth space. /shrug
There is a command somewhere that'flushes' your graphics, but Ihave not the slightest idea what it is.
or just /flush fullreset if you prefer
make a macro, stick it in a toolbar, you'll never regret it

this is the source of the problem, pre CU deep space was virtually lagless save the very worst hairballs in the center of the zone, and even then my mediocre old machine could manage 15 fps. since the CU there's a few different bugs it seems that drop framerates down to 3-7, specifically when the freedom station or ISD is shooting at lots of targets.
/bug it, but good luck finding a category to put it in, as there are no bug categories for space. ![]()
edit: does the graphics reset fix this particular problem? that would be awesome if so.
